March 14, 20242 yr In a middle relief role or do you make him a long-reliever? Touki has been terrible and shouldn't be guaranteed a spot whereas Banks could also be your long-reliever.

Roster Resource, after this news, has the rotation as: Fedde, Soroka, Flexen, Crochet (I highly doubt he makes the OD rotation), and Nastrini. You figure maybe one of the MiLB deal guys could make it or Lorenzen like you said.
March 14, 20242 yr So many other people have gotten grief, but this guy has never been able to get out of his own way, all of the way back to breaking his hand punching a teammate.
March 14, 20242 yr I'm surprised they didn't give him a chance to start in April, but hell why not, he's not showing anything positive in the spring either and that might as well count for something.

I agree. Kopech's biggest problem has always been Michael Kopech. He seems to be emotionally fragile.

March 14, 20242 yr Author It has been so frustrating watching Kopech pitch. He seems to be in his head from the first pitch. As someone else mentioned, Kopech's biggest issue has been himself. I'm hoping going to the bullpen helps. Maybe less pressure will be better...but I'm not optimistic.
March 14, 20242 yr Good. The hope would be that he shows something again as a bullpen arm and then move him.

Put him in his most successful position hes had from the last few seasons and see if he can regain confidence. It seems they're trying to promote competition in camp so rewarding someone who is struggling would counter that.
March 14, 20242 yr I would like to go back in time to pre-2023 and tell people here at Soxtalk that the only pitcher in the 2023 White Sox rotation who will make a start for them in 2024 is likely to be Touki Toussaint.
March 14, 20242 yr Perhaps "let's trust Bannister" is no longer a good reason to justify stuff like the Mena trade or the guys they got from SD. One of his key jobs was to save Kopech and he already failed.

March 14, 20242 yr From the hype he got coming up through the minors and the way he looked his first start vs the Twins, to this. Really encapsulates the failed White Sox rebuild

Nothing cracks me up more on sox talk than the amount of credit/belief given to coaches for established players development or lack there of.
