White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert

Why don't you like Arroyo? I have no opinion, just curious. Thanks.

Just think he’s a lower ceiling guy and I’d rather aim a bit higher given we’re just kicking off a rebuild.  And yes, I’m aware that Crawford slaps the ball a lot and the defense hasn’t come together just yet, but I feel if it all clicks he’s a more impactful player than Arroyo.

  • I do not see Robert getting traded, as it would likely mean they sold low on him Sox are better off keeping him and hoping that he rebuilds his trade value

The whole world thought Nick was a high first round pick.  If the Sox didn't select him, someone else would have.  The Sox failed in developing him.  Luis Arraez and Kwan show you that it CAN be done

If they are getting two top guys they want, just eat the money and be done with it.

I could see the Sox getting something done in ST with the Mets and Jett Williams will be the headliner along with another piece.

Why the Mets?

And why would Francona come out of retirement for the Reds of all teams if there weren't promises made about making a legit effort to win?

I can still totally see the Reds refusing to meet the White Sox demands as far as prospects and the inclusion of cash (or lack thereof) goes.

Yes, adding Robert could make the Reds a much better team but it’s not like they can’t currently field a starting outfield — TJ Friedl in CF with Austin Hays and Jake Fraley in the corners.

They’re not really an option now unless there’s an injury or one of those guys just sucks during the regular season.

Even though I’m not super high on him, I will say it’s nice to see that the Reds were willing to include Arroyo in a Robert trade vs. this idea he basically has little to no value.

They won't ask us to eat money unlike the Reds and Getz may be able to buy low on a couple prospects that fit what Getz is looking for (up the middle positions, speed/athleticism, take their walks).

Eh, considering the player Robert is supposed to be, should we really be impressed that a team offered a #92 rated MLB prospect for Robert with the Sox paying down some of his contract?  That’s like Fedde value.

One of the main insiders here has been suggesting fair value could be Robert + prospects for Lux…this certainly proves the floor right now is much higher.

Didn't you hear that Lux Flaherty and Edman teamed with Kopech to basically win the WS for LA ???

And the reports include that it is two of their top five.  Their top 5 is the two pitchers with super high ceilings in Chase Burns and Rhett Lowder who hit the majors last year as the top 2, then Arroyo.  Stewart and Collier also come in as IF prospects with some helium.  The Sox could use any and all combinations of players there.

While this does make sense, I think we also have to consider that Tito was in Cleveland dealing with the exact same s%*# and he didn’t b**** and complain, he just figured it out and won.  Now maybe it’s different for the Reds because of promises made, but I can’t imagine he thought they would be bellying up to the bar with the Dodgers in contract talks

Oh no, I'm not suggesting that they are. Cincinnati is still a smaller market team after all. But I just can't see Francona at his age and with his health history, choosing the Reds of all teams if there weren't some convincing assurances. He could have any job he wanted at this point in his career, why willingly chose another small market team with cheap ownership and all of the bullshit that comes with that?

Thought this one at foxsports.com site had one interesting inclusion...

I know, right? Shohei isn't really a bargain at this point. He's worth his contract, but I don't know if you can call a $700M contract a "bargain."

He is not an impact player in my view. 90% potential.

I was just going to say that.  Seems wild that a contract paying him not much less than the worth of the entire Miami Marlins franchise is a bargain, but I guess in this day and age if it could be done, it would be Shohei.

That idea once again he cost like $2 million or whatever in 2024 salary and generated upwards of $100+ million in revenues/media attention for the Dodgers.

There's an article that Y2Jimmy tweeted out that the Pirates big off season move remains to be seen and that they still plan to add.  This could be a spot for Robert as well.  Not sure what they would offer though.  Would figure Griffin or Johnson would have to be in the deal

There is no way in the world they trade Griffin

Unless Cruz moves back to SS or 3B, I don't see it.

Then it might be a 3 way trade where PIT sends pitching to a third team and the third team sends us up the middle bats.

They seem to be hellbent on adding a legit SS.
