They should. I feel like I suggested this somewhere (probably in thread about non-rendering Vaughn but don’t really care enough to go back and look)

Right. I thought they could have cobbled together a first baseman between Elko and Colas.

  • Woof. River Ryan is a nice prospect, but is 26, injured, and a pitcher. Oh yeah, and Gavin Lux is Gavin Lux. The hardest of passes.

"Colas moving to 1B could significantly improve his odds of making the OD roster."

Did he magically escape from the dog house? Is this a shot across AV's bow? Curious. Colas did play more 1B than OF before he signed with the Sox, so it's not entirely a new position. He also has less than a year of total MLB service time, so he could be a cheap replacement. Just seems like an odd move after burning $6M at the position already.

Unless they're going to bench Vaughn part of the time against tough RHP...and of course Colas could get DH at-bats as well.

Anything's better than another year of Gavin Sheets I guess.

I could certainly see a depth chart of:

c - Lee/Thaiss
1b - Vaughn/Colas/Sosa/Vargas/Thaiss
2B - Sosa/Meidroth/Rojas/Baldwin/Vargas
3b - Vargas/Rojas/Sosa/Meidroth/Baldwin
ss - Baldwin/Meidroth/Rojas
lf - Benintendi/Colas/Rojas/Baldwin/Tauchman/Slater
cf - Robert/Tauchman/Slater/Colas/Baldwin
rf - Tauchman/Slater/Colas/Rojas/Baldwin
dh - Colas - everyone else

I''m so old, I remember being told Oscar Colas was going to be a regular right fielder with a plus arm.

And a plus reliever...Cuban Ohtani.

I remember being clearly told he could be the backup CF as well so we didn't need a backup for Robert, and having to go to "Range factors" in the minors to explain that this looked really unlikely (with that being the best stat I could get).

Though we have so many quality RFs on the roster, I can see why they would make this move anyway.

Connor Joe and Jayson Heyward are going to replace Profar for SD.

Sure they are...

You excited about this move?  The sad thing is he might be able to outproduce the Sox RF platoon.

If Heyward hits like 2023 when he was a capable platoon bitter for LA...but he was oft injured last year and 36 now.

No worries, the main part of the Sox RF platoon is 34.

Apropos of nothing, just found it amusing.

I love it because all the players were described as “off limits.” That is pretty much the Orioles story. The next high-profile guy they trade will be the first high-profile guy they trade. They need to learn to pump and dump prospects a la the Dodgers and Yankees.

Sheets was only good enough to start for Hahn, Getz, and the Sox.

I think Elias wants a good team for a long time instead of a great team for a short time.  He'll keep all his top guys and have really good teams year after year and hope he has the right mix to occasionally win something.  That org was so bad for so long I would be surprised if he did go all in on a season.

I think that's the right approach; "All-in" efforts still don't hit that often and there will always be a team that an go "all in" better than they can.

Great, now the Dodgers are going to start signing everybody's GMs.

BREAKING: The Dodgers sign McCovey Cove and the Robert Clemente Bridge, both of which will be inserted into the already excellent Dodger Stadium backdrop before Opening Day.

The Hall of Fame announced today that Dick Allen will be wearing a Phillies cap on his Hall of Fame plaque.

Which is unfortunate since in one of his last interviews before he died Dick told Paul Sullivan of the Tribune he wanted to go in wearing a White Sox cap.

If you flipped the major leagues results the last 2-3 years...between the Phillies and Sox, and especially owners (Middleton/Reinsdorf), just wonder if you get the same outcome on hat choice?

Reinsdorf sure didn't help Allen get into the Hall. Is that what you're implying? Or, am I inferring that correctly?
