Colas did play more 1B than OF before he signed with the Sox, so it's not entirely a new position. He also has less than a year of total MLB service time, so he could be a cheap replacement. Just seems like an odd move after burning $6M at the position already.

Unless they're going to bench Vaughn part of the time against tough RHP...and of course Colas could get DH at-bats as well. Anything's better than another year of Gavin Sheets I guess.

I remember being clearly told he could be the backup CF as well so we didn't need a backup for Robert, and having to go to "Range factors" in the minors to explain that this looked really unlikely (with that being the best stat I could get).

If you flipped the major leagues results the last 2-3 years...between the Phillies and Sox, and especially owners (Middleton/Reinsdorf), just wonder if you get the same outcome on hat choice?
