Opening Day 26-Man Roster

He only struck out 9 times in *checks notes* 10 at-bats this spring.

How does a 35% strikeout rate in the minors translate to the majors?  I don’t know but I’m sure it will be fun to find out.  🤣

I don’t think you’ve stopped caring, my dude.

  • Colson should play better then. He hasn't remotely earned a big league roster spot and putting him in the bigs out of ST would be organizational malpractice.

Fuller Will Fix Him…Rays already gave up trying.  And the second or third worst team in baseball…depending on how you rank Colorado and Miami.

Jones solves the problem of supposedly needing Taylor to back up CF. Might as well claim Canario if available and cut Taylor while we're at it.

That's why I never really understood the Taylor signing. You would be able to find some defensive first OF towards the end of camp/around now. Heck, we picked up Jankowski lol

Has a Rule 5 draft pick ever made a team’s rotation to start the season before?

In Dec. 1900, Christy Mathewson was taken in rule 5 draft by the Reds, but subsequently traded back to Giants, then pitched 336 innings in 1901

I wonder if a Robert trade was incredibly close to happening at that time?

Well, the Reds rumor popped up right around that time I believe. I don't think the expectation was he'd be here to start the year. Even Robert admitted that himself. I wouldn't be surprised to see him be one of those rare May trades.

I'm surprised Anderson didn't make it.  I always thought they liked him more than was warranted.  His Spring was, however, something less than outstanding.

Gilbert was not impressive...except for the no no in his big league debut for AZ.

Who did they trade for him again?

Get Coffey Pallette Schoenle and Tanner McDougal ready to go because replacement needs will be abundant.

He was actually the closer for stretches last season.

That is one pathetic roster for sure.

This is like a game of AI random generated name, or White Sox player.

Not sure if anyone is surprised, but the Athletic ranked the Sox rotation last

White Sox 2025 Opening Day roster:

C: Korrin Ley, Mav Thaenys
IF: Andrik Vahn, Lysen Sora, Bryel Baldrix, Mozen Amari, Neko Matann, Ilvar Vargos
OF: Lurob JNR, Tayven Tylar, Austeon Slaitor, Travik Jankos, Andrien Bentari

SP: Taren Burque, Jona Kannon, Garreth Martan, Norgé Pereth, Braedon Smyth
RP: Saimi Boesyr, Jordell Ellan, Maicen Eizert, Mikken Clevar, Jordar Leizure, Pennyn Murfae, Bryton Wilsyr, Myko Vassil

Subtracting Gilbert leaves B.Wilson and Vasil as your swingmen/blowout coverage guys.

Then Iriarte Nastrini and Dunn behind them with Owen White gone.

So three more 40 man spots needed. Thorpe is 1. So 2 more guys on the chopping block and Eisert certainly seemed like he was going to be 1. With Tyler Gilbert supposedly going to the IL, pretty much has to be Schuster and Owen White considering 26 of the 40 man roster are pitchers.

Taylor is an elite defender who was a 2 win player from 2021 to 2023.  His bat fell off last year, but he’s far more likely to be a productive major leaguer than Jankowski or Jones.  Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t have signed Taylor given all the other veteran OFs, but these guys aren’t really that interchangeable.

Mitch Spence threw 150 innings for the A’s last year.

I don’t think it’s going to be White. He’s in Charlotte rotation. I’m curious to see what they do. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them DFA or release Carela at this point. They can’t put him on 60-day since they sent him down. They can’t carry him all season.
