Agreed. Plus, Baldwin is on the 40-man. I know they opened up 2 spots (depending on how it goes with Carela maybe one) but one spot is likely going to Drury.

I kind of got Amaya’s spot earmarked for Meidroth.  I don’t think both make the 26 man roster and as soon as Chase is ready they will FDA Amaya.

Yeah that’s fine. I do too. I’m just saying at the end of spring training when you’re making decisions, give Baldwin the opportunity since he called up last year and is on 40-man and then call up Meidroth later for Amaya’s spot.

Meidroth needs a 40-man spot so might as well kick that can down the road a few weeks later.

Pretty clear this was more than just a random muscle spasms in his back. I've raised my concern level from like 2 to 4 here I guess. Still fairly low but he's been out what, like 10 days now? He def tweaked something, it wasn't just a ramp up response.

Well, it could be something that, with a regular stretching routine, is manageable. Without, it's random. I think Dan Hayes was talking about Royce Lewis from the Twins on the SoxMachine podcast. Lewis played about 30 games through the end of July, and finally got on a regular stretching routine, and played the rest of the season.

Eh, that's just a feel good BS story. Stretching is important, it's hardly some cure for structural issues in the body. It's worrisome that he seems to have issues in his core two springs running. He's a big, bulky dude, part of his rating as a prospect is that he's going to be a power hitting SS or 3B. If he can't play a good 3B long term because of his back that's a bummer. We'll see I'm not that concerned as I said, just a little bit more than I was the other day.

100% exactly what I would do.

As someone who experienced fairly chronic back issues in my early 20s I can say with absolute confidence a stretching and core workout routine completely changed my life. I'm about to turn 40 and it's been over 12 years since I last experienced severe back spasms and I continue to do a 3-4x per week stretching/core workout routine.

HR power obviously is an important criteria in selecting players for the final roster. My preference would be to sacrifice some OBP and even a bit of Defense with a few big guys in there (Drury, Ramos) to get a few more bombs. Not Joey Gallo though.

I think that Lee should be shopped.  Anyone looking for catchers out there? Sox don't need him and Teel is already a lot better, IMO.

Karinchak, Anderson, B. Wilson, S. Smith, Booser*, Varland, Ellard*, Murfee

c - Thaiss/Lee
1B - Vaughn
2B - Drury
3B - Vargas
SS - Baldwin
OF - Benintendi, Taylor, Tauchman/Slater
DH - Sosa
bench - Rojas, Colas

Anderson loses the closer spot to Karinchak after a few weeks. Thorpe starts the year rehabbing in AAA.

Perez, B. Wilson, and S. Smith can't be optioned.

Oh, and Robert gets traded.

Edit: whoops, had one too many bullpenners. Took out Shuster.

110 losses.

When Teel is added to the roster, it would be a question of Lee vs Thais though

I agree on needing more power.  I just don’t think Lee will bring back anything of value.  He has more value in sticking around until you are sure the young catchers are ready.

Maybe there's an early injury and another team gets desperate...but a negative fWAR doesn't have a ton of value regardless of relative youth.

The Sox Way is this:

Drury has a great spring, makes the team, we cut someone who's out of options and younger.. then Drury proceeds to have a terrible May, June, July and is DFAd

Haha, you know something like this is going to happen.

Scott Merkin takes an educated whack at the OD roster. He has Benny and Slater on the IL, so Fletcher and Ramos make the team.

If they’re going to put Rojas at 2B, then Sosa should get first crack at DH.  I’d have Ramos go down to AAA and practice with an OF glove some.

Drury is a solid big leaguer in my opinion. You might be able to steal 3 WAR from someone like Drury.

If he's rostered all year. If he's pounding out 2 WAR into July, I think he's gone. Unless the Sox slip through some vortex and are in the thick of a divisional race.

This might be true, but he's not going to net much. He's a solid versatile player. Maybe he cliffed last year and he's through, but it was worth the gamble.

I don’t agree with Colson being on the opening day roster. He hasn’t played much this spring and they should taken it slow with his back issues. No sense in wasting a year of control on him. If they are going to do that for anyone, it should be Teel.

It's very white sox to have Colson make the team and sit 75% of the games.
