Opening Day 26-Man Roster

I don't get it either.  He didn't earn the job, and hasn't been healthy.  Nothing about the season he had last year should override that thought.

I would’ve been far more annoyed if they rushed him up just to sell a couple extra tickets for opening day. Optioning him is the logical and smart approach. Maybe they are actually learning how to operate like an actual MLB franchise.

I don’t think you’ve stopped caring, my dude.

  • Colson should play better then. He hasn't remotely earned a big league roster spot and putting him in the bigs out of ST would be organizational malpractice.

I don't understand why Nelson is upset about him not making the team. He missed like 8 games. I thought everyone wanted them to stop rushing people?

I think Josh Nelson is an idiot. Are you referring to the comments? Even though I have the same opinion, start him in the bigs, then demote him if he's exposed to work on his shortcomings. I just don't feel like I have to dig in and fight over a move I just made up in my head. Once Nelson's move is avoided, the entire organization becomes a "joke".

You put it a little more harshly than I would, but yea.

Jim Margalus and James Fegan are great reporters and have fine insights. Josh Nelson is a rung below the typical sports radio dolt.

Fegan is amazing. Jim is a wondering lost soul of a prior era of writing that no longer resonates with anybody except fellow Gen X travelers. You nailed Josh.

The Score was torching them for some reason. Plenty of reasons to torch them, but Colson being sent down isn't one of them.

Josh blocked me long ago on Twitter, and my timeline has been much better for it.

There were some clearly egregious examples of Hahn shoe-horning players into the OD lineup. Micah Johnson. Jacob May. I'm okay with either decision, starting or optioning Monty. I'm glad they're committing to something early enough to get a good look at their other options.

I still can't embed from Twitter. Person there made the point of Nick Maton at SS. He got 290 PAs for Detroit 2 years ago, and Fuller must see something in his bat.

How the hell could you be upset about Colson going to cook in AAA? The last thing you want is to put that MLB pressure on a guy coming back from a spring training setback. Good lord. This is the smart decision and one frankly I'm shocked they made.

Hold up he's also complaining that the Sox should have signed a "vet stopgap"? Bro, just stop. Yea, spend 5 million on a zero WAR or .5 WAR SS so you can what, waste 5 million in a year we project for 50 wins? WTF kind of sense would that make?

I was at opening day the year Jacob May made the team. He genuinely might be the worst Sox player I’ve ever seen. I think he only had like 2 MLB hits  before they sent him down and then he never came back.

They are morons on that site who just like to b****.  This is the least shocking news ever.

Josh is whatever but I'd say Margalus is more objective than the average poster here.

Got it. Sorry. I've taken it out of my comment. IF you take it out of your quote, it'll be gone. It was a joke, but I wasn't thinking.

We already have plenty of trash SS's on this roster.  I wish people would quit acting like we are missing out on something this year.  This roster is trash.  Just play it out and move on.

Agreed, play it out and bring up the prospects when ready. This year is all about developing the prospects.

Most of the people on the roster aren't relevant.

Drury is a solid big leaguer in my opinion. You might be able to steal 3 WAR from someone like Drury.

Drury has less than 3 career WAR over 867 games. I guess you may be able to steal a 3 war season in the same sense anyone put on a mlb roster might have an unforeseen breakout season.

Drury changed/overhauled his swing prior to the 2022 season. He went on to accrue 5.8 WAR over his next 263 games (2 seasons). Last year he was absolutely horrible and it's always possible he's washed, but he's been capable of being a 3 WAR player 2 of the last 3 years which carries a lot more weight than what he did at 23.

I’m pretty sure Mr. Nelson knows what he’s doing and it’s all intentional.  Of all the White Sox bloggers, he gets the most radio (The Score) and TV time (GN Sports).  He’s winning the game by being off-the-wall and weirdly opinionated.

That, right there. I always found it weird that he was the guy getting on sports talk instead of Jim. Josh just put it together and started the Podcasts way back. It's a commodity, digging in on one side of a roster move, and riding it for a week.

It's infuriating. I want to support Fegan and Jim but Josh Nelson is dreadful.

As a former radio guy you don't get paid to come on as a guest. You're "paid" in exposure. Nelson seems to be in about the same spot he was career was as 5 years ago. I dunno, maybe he does alright for himself but it doesn't offer value to the fan to listen to a strident blow hard.

And he’s not even a particularly insightful blowhard

I think they made a decision to have that type of "analysis" as their brand.  He goes on Bernstein/Holmes shows on 670 and its like "this is a smart fan's take" but he never says anything interesting or insightful.  Its always the same old easy second guessing crap.

I remember one time they were obsessing over some minor roster transaction like leaving Jake Peter off the 40 man roster before a rule 5 draft and that's when I decided to unfollow all of them.

I also hate his voice.

Jim isn't as bad.  And Fegan is good... but I have no interest to subscribe to the patreon just for Fegan.

I always just assumed all of these guys have other jobs. I can’t imagine making money talking about the worst baseball team in the MLB.  Not a really good career choice as long as Jerry owns the team.  No one really cares outside of Sox fans, and probably really only the diehard Sox fans.

Awful lot of traffic on here to discuss anything bad team.
