I’ll say this, l think they make that pick now because they have Ryan Fuller in the org. I totally get wanting to kick things off with a for sure big leaguer, which Smith is, plus he’s a demographic they’ve had a lot of success with.

I think this coming 1st round pick will be quite telling. Especially if there is a prep hitter target on the board amongst a glut of solid but not super exciting college pitchers. Y2Jimmy0
I’ve been saying for a year that Chris Getz made the decision in Hagen Smith. I totally get it. I would’ve taken Griffin though.
GreenSox
My comment directly after the pick: "The absolute last of the possibilities i wanted the Sox to draft. Lord I hope I'm wrong about Smith." He just looked like a reliever to me (delivery; rarely went deep into games in college), from my highly amateur look. You had me at Chris Getz is a moron. The later is much less egregious with the draft being such a crapshoot.
BigHurt3515
In a dynasty baseball league, any young minor leaguers that are a little under the radar that I should look to pick up? I have Wolkow & Bonemer

Lip Man 1
Part of a story in the Sun-Times: Noah Schultz is getting a rude welcome to Triple-A. The White Sox’ top-ranked prospect, and the highest ranked left-handed pitching prospect in baseball, has made three starts for Triple-A Charlotte since being promoted last month, and not one of them has gone well. Schultz owns a ghastly 11.91 ERA, with 15 runs allowed in just 11 1/3 innings. Opposing hitters are batting .391 against him with a 1.178 OPS. He’s walked eight and allowed a trio of home runs. The Sox, at least, are not worried about one of their rebuilding cornerstones experiencing this in his first taste of pro ball’s penultimate level. “I do think it’s good for him to go through, to navigate some of these outings,” general manager Chris Getz said earlier this week. “Obviously, Triple-A hitters are going to be more seasoned than Double-A or A-ball hitters. I know he’s working on some things, whether it be his pitch characteristics, the development of each pitch that he has, but also the [pitch] sequencing. There’s some delivery things that he’s ironing out, as well. “You look at the quality of stuff, it’s still there. And now he’s being challenged with better hitters, and it’s only going to better prepare him for the future at the major league level.” That might end up the case, but he’ll obviously have to solve what’s ailed him in these three starts in order to make it to the majors in the first place. The 2022 first-round draft choice will make his second appearance representing the Sox in the Futures Game on Saturday. In his first trip to the event last summer, he faced six batters and only got one out, allowing three hits, walking a batter and hitting another. He was charged with three runs. “I wouldn’t say I was the happiest with my outing,” Schultz said last month of his first Futures Game, “but I know the experience as a whole, it was an experience I definitely won’t forget.”
Lip Man 1
Schultz got rocked again, this time in the future's game: Schultz smoked again in Futures Game For the second year in a row, Sox top pitching prospect Noah Schultz went to the Futures Game and had a miserable performance in the All-Star prospects showcase. Last year, he faced six batters and allowed four runs, giving up three hits, walking one batter and hitting another. Saturday, he again allowed four runs – the only runs the AL gave up in a 4-2 loss – giving up four hits, including a homer, to the six hitters he faced. While last season was strong for Schultz outside of the midsummer exhibition, this latest rough-up in the Futures Game follows a string of three straight bad starts to begin his time at Triple-A Charlotte; he has an 11.91 ERA. DirtySox
I love how Lip only shows up to the minor league forum to let us know a prospect is struggling. I don't even have to read the post. Edited July 13 by DirtySox

I don't even have to read the post. I just try to pass along the information, not commentating one way or the other on the minor league system. Schultz like C. Montgomery are two especially important keys to this so-called rebuild. They need to do well, period, full stop or this is going to set things back even farther than they are already expected to. Unless something happens and Ishbia takes control sooner than expected. If that happens things may change in a hurry. Overall though much like the first rebuild with the Bust Brothers, things aren't proceeding as smoothly or as quickly as everyone is hoping it appears. It would be nice though if one time the Sox had a prospect recently, that tore apart the minor leagues and then did the same at the big league level. That would be a big positive overall. southsider2k5
So it will probably be my jinx when he fails, but I do like to check in on the merch auctions around the Sox and their MiLB teams. Sometimes if I see a jersey I will, I will put in a bid either for a player of interest, or a jersey number I like if it is cheap enough. The Knights 4th of July jersey popped up recently, so I bid and won a Schultz jersey. I got it in the mail today, and it was autographed too! Nice win.

WestEddy
I had mentioned a few of these on our draft stream, but will do so here as well: OF/1B Lyle Miller-Green, OF TJ McCants, and RHP Jonathan Clark have all been promoted to Winston-Salem (A+). RHP Seth Keener is also on his way back to Adv A. #Dash — Ian Eskridge (@dailywhitesox) July 15, 2025
