46DidIt
Don't get me wrong, I agree it's within realm of possibility Crochet puts up three 6 WAR seasons, but seems mighty speculative for a guy with a career high of 4.1 and career total of 6.

(13m/WAR) Still not buying that 5 WAR is worth 50 million a year though. If the Sox signed a 5 WAR player to 50 million a year, would that result in an extra 50+ million in yearly revenue? I have my doubts WAR correlates to team wins, and winning helps drive revenue. This is also free agency values, as teams aren't typically constructed of all free agents being paid market value, you're not actually paying 12/million per WAR on your roster. Chicago White Sox
1 hour ago, Look at Ray Ray Run said: WAR values don't scale normally. 1 war isn't worth 10 million but 5 war is worth 50 million due to scarcity of players at that level. Both scarcity of impact players and constraint on roster spots.

Not if he puts up a 2 WAR season. Guys like Cole, Sale, Verlander, etc put up multiple 6+ WAR seasons in actuality rather than hypothetical ones

greg775
Red Sox love those tall White Sox lefty pitchers. If we're ever going to sniff a pennant again like in 05 which now looks like lightning in a bottle flukish type year we're gonna win with players like the Royals had last year minus the two stars (Salv Perez, Witt). With the Sox refusing to pay the going rate for stars, this is all futile folks. Sox may flirt with .500 and a playoff spot or two but no pennants. Rodon just had a healthy 2.0 WAR season and has had multiple better seasons than Crochet has had, just for one of countless examples of pitchers having worse seasons than they had previously. Just a couple years ago, Cease followed up a 6.4 WAR season with a healthy 2.2 season for another example.

You mentioned Sale, Verlander, and Cole in other posts, and forgot about them all of the sudden. Rodon is a fun example because he has been injured so many different times that might well be diminished stuff, and also a great example of what one or two great seasons can bring you on the free agent market, when you have superstar potential with a major injury history. Soxfest
Smith and Noah will be traded just like GC............If Jr is still kicking. No way he ever pays a pitcher that much, hell he won't pay a hitter over 100 mil deal.

If his arm blows up over his next 65 starts, which is extremely likely IMO, he's never even coming close to sniffing that kind of money. I think this is a great deal for Garrett and one with significant risk for the Red Sox. Supports what I was saying even more and always thought it was highly likely he got an extension fairly quickly .Took a little longer than I thought. Figured it would be done before the season started.

Yeah I forgot about them because Crochet isn't comparable to them. That was whole reason I brought them up
