I'd like to recommend all people interested in the process of developing Crochet in the off season leading up to his breakout as a starting pitcher in 2024 go here I'd recommend listening to the whole thing but they don't get into talking about Crochet until the podcast is half over. Just listening to Bannister talk about elite training year round for pitchers, Trajeckt Machines, Tommy John surgery etc. is a must for anyone who wants to really know how developing Crochet was a true team effort. There is also so much more out there from Crochet too crediting the people in the organization . Might be an interview with Crochet too somewhere in the Baseball Isn't Boring Podcast episodes. I think anyone interested in being fair has to acknowledge the Sox had a strong role in getting Crochet to where he is right now. This is a great post, and it actually does give me hope that Getz's personnel decisions have merit. The cynical side of me thinks that this, coupled with Crochet's comments about his experience in arriving to the Red Sox, paint a picture of the Sox as a high-end minor league team that develops guys until they're ready to get the full big league experience in a place like Boston. 1

Crochet will be in contention for AL Cy Young this season, and the White Sox have the fewest wins in the American League. So I ask... 1. My point is that the White Sox were better than Boston over this weekend. So how about, oh, I don't know . . . . . ., actually enjoying that it happened. 2. Shane Smith should have left the game giving up one less run than Crochet. And also, that as Crochet contends for that Cy Young, there might be some of those votes going to a young, former Rule 5 pick, from Chicago.

Dude that is literally the reason everyone is so pissed off. People have been watching exactly that on the field for years and are sick of it. I think you finally discovered the point. So your point is that you're sick of seeing a young, inexperienced player not make a play, after you have continually complained about the Sox playing older players who have no upside and we need to be playing younger players from the system. I get it now: you're pissed off that you got what you wanted, but it this case it didn't work out, so you're sick of it. Okay, I see it now. 1

I have no idea what you are going on about now if you are trying to take a victory lap over the Sox blowing a game just like they have blown an untold number of games over the last couple of years in similar fashion, but somehow that is a victory because it was the kid we were playing out of position because we haven't developed an internal OF in something over a decade? Sure. Yes, I am definitely sick of it.

I can't remember who it was, but one of the big baseball reporters wrote a longform piece on the White Sox and how shitty of an owner JR is. Within that article were many examples of extreme cheapness reaching waaayyy beyond just payroll. And the players, especially the ones who see how things run on a day to day basis, are the ones that see it first hand. Even a player who was here last year after all of these major changes were made last year was saying how much better a place like Boston is being run. It is easy to hand wave away fans thoughts, but when players and front office peers see it, it is harder to discount those thoughts.

LMAO The true sign is succeeding with guys outside the first round...and we don't even do that well (first rounders). Robert and Jimenez were two of the most highly sought after Latin American talents in the past decade...hard to say even those were clear wins right now with how their careers have turned out.

No, it's very easy to say that Robert and Jimenez were clear wins, because it's true. Injuries don't erase the history of them being developed. That's silliness. Eloy is only 28 and in AAA and Robert is 27 and stinking it up. Are they both truly clear wins on being developed? Their careers look like they are winding down and they both should be in their primes. Edited April 18 by WhiteSox2023

I wouldn't say they're clear wins, but once a player has a good season in the majors (which Eloy and Robert both have had) and then regress, I think it starts to become more about injuries and/or the coachability of the specific player rather than a development failure.

So going from #8 in major league talent in 2020-21 to #29/30 four or five years later can be spun as some sort of developmental victory? That's kind of like taking credit for Tatis' big league contributions when he never set foot on an MiLB field. Well, at least you're not still arguing White Sox fans are better off than LA or SD fanbases due to irresponsible contracts...so that's small progress.

Are you angry because I'm not joining you in pretending that the White Sox "failed" to develop a guy who played 3 full seasons in our minor league system, then put up 4 above-average major league seasons of production? Hostetler wasn't good at his job, or couldn't work within the confines provided, and Paddy wasn't very good at his job. They graduated their prospects, then had little to nothing behind them. Which of the voices in your head is spinning that? It's nothing like taking credit for Tatis, who never stepped foot in a White Sox minor league clubhouse. Tatis played 288 minor league games in the Padres' system, so again, I have no idea what you're talking about. This is a White Sox message board. There's really no reason to talk about the Padres or Dodgers. Pace yourself on your victory lap over that.

Nevertheless, despite your protestations that you hardly mentioned it all of twenty two times, I’m sure you will be bringing it up as soon as the Padres are in third or fourth in the toughest division in baseball…how they are doomed to baseball purgatory like Sox fans. At least the Washington Generals paid fans the common courtesy of being generally entertaining!!! And SEC schools are hardly known for teaching accurate history (TN is Crochet’s alma mater).
