They have 2 years of options left. Why would they give him a 4 year deal?

Because the options cost 20 million per year.  2 years for 40 isn't quite the same as 4 years for 40.  I would argue that he is worth 10 million per year because of his current skill set.

Anyone who thinks Tony LaRussa brought anything positive to this organization this time around is truly derranged.

  • I may be in the minority but I have no issue with them keeping Luis. They have nothing committed to payroll next year and no one knocking at the door to be an every day CFer. Also, I would consider ke

  • Oh no. Chris Getz maybe asked for a desirable target in trade negotiations. It's truly unfortunate dialogue ends completely after one player is inquired about.

If that's all he's worth, then Robert would probably gamble on a 1/10 deal to prove himself. He's still not even 28.

Just saying there is nothing that says 10 million per year would get turned down.  That's good money when you have no guarantee that more than that is in his future.  He hasn't been worth more than that.  Additionally, he had a front row seat to how fast a Tim Anderson fanished from relevance.

I think it's just that the risk is out of balance. If Robert's done, 4/40 is still too much to be paying him. If a newer, better, 5 WAR Robert is ready to emerge, then 4/40 is a catastrophic pittance, from his view. And if a slightly better version of 2024-2025 is what he is, then they can certainly go year-to-year with him, as there are comparable players on the market to gamble on.

It would be great to have a 2-3 WAR Robert in CF for the next 4 seasons for a reasonable price. I just think the Sox and Robert can do better elsewhere.

Your take is the most likely outcome.  Just spitballing that 4 yrs at 40 M isn't silly.  It might be an overpay or a bargain.

He’s better off taking a one year deal to rebuild value. Doesn’t really matter what you think his value is.

No...but it does matter what GM's think his value is.

It will be interesting to see what he signs for if he becomes a free agent.  I agree that he will likely sign a 1-year deal to recoup his value, like WE and Bob Sacamano said.  Moncada was able to get $5 million from the Angels and he’s been injury-prone and unproductive for years.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see Robert sign for 1-year and $10 to $15 million.

just some quick reference we're 50 days out from the trade deadline; for Luis to return to his career norms he would need to hit the following .360/.400/.550. Its elite but not impossible, personally I think he's too lost in the sauce of his swing choices that have allowed for his best walk rate but at the expense of nearly everything else.

he needs 64 hits of which 10 are xbh and a .380-400 OBP just to get back to his career norms of .261/.313/.461

At this point I'm not even concerned with what teams are interested. You aren't getting anything worthwhile enough to even look at team's prospects lists.

At this point I just want them to get anything and move on.

This is where I’m at. I don’t want them to admit this year sucked, double down and pickup the option and try again next year.

No way in hell JR will commit to another $20 million (or $18 million since the buyout would be $2 million)....not even 100% sure if Ishbia would.

Don't forget they pulled that crap with Kimbrel's option for $16M with the intent to trade him.

I really hope Robert gets traded and goes on to absolutely destroy the MLB. Just completely out this fraud of an organization for their mismanagement of players. The talent is there. This organization is just incapable of nurturing it in any players. It's a big reason I have zero faith in any "rebuild".

Well except for him. And Shane Smith. And Meidroth. And Quero. And

If we're declaring victories with Smith, Vargas, Meidroth, and Quero this early, then Moncada, Eloy, TA, and Robert were all massive successes.

Fair. But they were massive successes, until they weren’t.

I’m not declaring them victories or anything, I’m just not interested in waiting 5 years down the road to be invested in them when they look good now.

It’s just more fun for me that way and lord knows we can all use a little more fun as Sox fans.

What exactly does that accomplish for us fans? There is already a new ownership transfer in place. What does showing how bad current ownership do?

I'm just here to say Tim Anderson was a big success and doesn't deserve to get lumped in with everyone else.
