Anyone who thinks Tony LaRussa brought anything positive to this organization this time around is truly derranged.

  • I may be in the minority but I have no issue with them keeping Luis. They have nothing committed to payroll next year and no one knocking at the door to be an every day CFer. Also, I would consider ke

  • Oh no. Chris Getz maybe asked for a desirable target in trade negotiations. It's truly unfortunate dialogue ends completely after one player is inquired about.

Of course, every player has his strike outs, but Robert looks so bad on his. And it also seems to be on the same type of pitch. He is lunging and looks totally off balance. This has been going on for a while. Robert really doesn't have trade value.

I'd like to see him get closer to the plate and quiet his lower body a bunch. Shorten his stride a ton, simplify it, back hip and drive down to the ball. Cover the outside corner without lunging. He's got great bat speed, doesn't need to really focus on that, just make hard contact. He's also obviously become an elite base stealer, work on getting on base.

I still think he’s got some trade value because a compentant org probably thinks they can fix him, but he’s certainly not making it easy on us with his peformance.

My 2 cents worth is he's trying to be something the Sox want him to be and as of yet the changes aren't working.

He can't be that guy who can have a good walk rate and still be the hitter he was in 2023. He's opened his stance, moved farther back in the box,  has a smaller leg kick than in 2023. Those changes all seem designed to give him a longer look at the ball and simplify his swing but sometimes his swing looks like all arm's and no legs/hips in it.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that he hasn't been the same player since returning from his right hip flexor that he sustained in April 2024. He also had the serious right hip flexor tear in May 2021.

He just doesn't seem to crush the ball for 425 ft+ HRs anymore . To my eyes he looks stiffer and his timing is way off.

Let's get back the front knee lifted higher leg kick ,close the stance and move  up a tiny bit in the box  guy from 2023  and find the high EV, power hitter again not the weak hitting walker.

Who is Jim Riley? Also, I doubt that the Padres could take on Luis Robert’s salary.

You don't think the Padres could afford his 2025 salary of less than half his $15M slightly before July 31 ? That's About $6-7M.

The other yrs are option years so they could just not pick up the option for 2026.

Luxury tax wise, it’s factored if it’s the full salary though.

Didn't know that.

Padres have some VERY tough decisions to make.

Trade Arraez, Cease, Suarez and TRY to sign the now-injured Michael King...or go all-in and lose all of those guys with no compensation unless they run the risk of putting QO's on all of them, which won't fit their budget, either.

de Vries looks like an absolute stud at SS and will push Bogaerts back to 2B/1B/DH, but Salas has gone backwards as much as Colson and then there's a big falloff in their prospect depth.

They're up in the WC race and not THAT far behind the Dodgers, but there's also SF and AZ to contend with, just in their division alone.

They're probably talking to Sheets right now about Robert, Jr.

Keep in mind, they have Musgrove coming back next season and Darvish at some point this season (as well).

Quite the quandary.

Then again, this is absolutely the kind of "go for broke" AJ Preller move that he constantly gambles with.  They have $100-150 million of debt, roughly, and they've improved that position the last two off seasons, and Robert only being their responsibility for 2024 would be enticing.  But they're certainly not going to give up a top prospect for him...and Salas would be pointless with the White Sox catching depth.  It would likely be more pitching, which the White Sox don't really need...unless they're targeting future relievers to solidify the pen (which is backwards team-building).

From the Sun-Times post game report. Venable says he'll be in the lineup Friday:

After only pinch hitting on Tuesday and not being in the lineup Wednesday, questions were starting to arise about oft-injured center fielder Luis Robert Jr.

Manager Will Venable said pregame Robert’s absence was only precautionary because of some right knee soreness Robert is dealing with. But it’s noteworthy that when speaking to reporters last week, Robert also mentioned the knee soreness.

Any injury is notable with Robert given his injury history. He’s already scuffling at the plate this season, batting .190/.276/.307 with a major-league-leading 21 stolen bases entering play Wednesday.

Robert having a few days off is a good thing, injury or not.

I think what you just said is that right now, Michael Taylor is the better player.

It’s actually scary how similar their numbers are so far this season. Both sitting at 0.0 fWAR. Robert’s wRC+ is 66 and Taylor’s wRC+ is 65. Unfortunately, one is getting paid $15M while the other is getting paid just $1.95M.

I was thinking about this yesterday actually: at least Taylor isn’t hurting us in the middle of the order.

Stop thinking.

Bump.

So, do the Sox keep letting him steal bases, or do they put him in bubble wrap?

It's the only thing enticing about him right now, so you should probably keep doing it. I'd put him in bubblewrap if I felt like I was going to get a massive package for him, but that ship has sailed.

Somehow you would hope there is a naive GM out there not named Chris Getz, then when you think that happens you were duped with a A version of the person you got rid of.

Luis Robert has no trade value right now. Even if he's traded, at this point, it's for, at best, salary relief, on a team whose payroll is already been gutted. The White Sox are not getting a top end prospect or even middle of the road prospect unless they pay for salary ( which they don't have a history of doing) or he suddenly becomes amazing in the next 50 games which also seems unlikely given how poor his performance has been for more than a year.

White Sox may find a team who is willing to take him and hope he performs better in a winning culture, but trade value is out the door on this return.

Shoulda just thrown in cash in the offseason (2/3 of his 2025 salary aka what you're paying him if you move him at the end of July anyway) to help get what you wanted.

Not trading him after 23 and not taking the Reds offer are two big strikes.

Always hindsight.   The mental illness of get something while it's hot is for small market habitual losing teams like the Sox.  I never trust trade rumors because that's what they are and who knows for sure if the Reds were really going to do that.  I doesn't seem plausible from their side also being a budget team.

I guess they can chance next year.  It's not like the team is burdened with a bunch of higher salaries.

Change of scenery trades never work for sorry ass teams.

At the same time maybe they need to purge the players from the TLR/Grifol era. How many of those players even not on the team have not shown serious decline?  Those players are cursed.

They had a segment on him in Foul Territory.  He went thru 3 different managers.
