I stand by my point that a better org takes these guys (while they were still young and developing) and absolutely crushes it.

That's more of a guess than a point isn't it ? I mean do they suddenly get healthier ? Do coaches and trainers drill it into the poor dumb players heads to train the right way and injuries stop being so plentiful ? Did Robert forget everything that happened in 2023 ? Is he mentally defeated ? Physically defeated ? A combination platter ?

Why is a 12th rounder like Baldwin hitting better than our 5 tool superstar for 1 year ? Why are a bunch of AAAA players just as good as Robert right now ?

Maybe picking players who develop enough to make it to the majors is just mostly a crap shoot . Some organizations draft better some develop position players better. Some develop pitchers better.

Most  well run organizations spend a lot of money, more scouts, more coaches, more data miners, more trainers,  more computers , more equipment , more sales people , more public relations people .

A well run organizations like the Dodgers says screw it let's just buy the best players a lot more than they develop stars. A well run organization like Tampa Bay crushes it. They draft ,develop, trade compete but ultimately success is short lived. No championships to show for it. Baltimore crushed it with huge amounts of talented position players and they're trending down.

Answers are hard to come by unless you're a fan , then you know exactly what's wrong with no real knowledge lots of crystal ball gazing.

Really what you just said is that drafting was just fine domestically and internationally if only the development people were better we would have crushed it !

  • Must be nice to have no idea what you’re doing and just blame it on a “rebuild”.   This rebuild is in a worst place than when Getz took over.

  • Yes, but the unsuccessful dinglehopper was hired specifically cause there was no time to lose with a classic rebuild, then he immediately was telling people that they could compete in a woeful divisio

  • Sorry, I'm gonna keep going because the team on the field is such a walking embarrassment that Getz deserves to be roasted over a volcanic flame. Acting like he's the first GM to have their hands

Brooks Baldwin has -.3 bWAR and is OPSing .650, so yeah he is hitting "better" than Robert but this is a real lousy point your making here.

I don't know Cali, but if they did, you and your retrospective crystal ball certainly would claim credit for predicting their ascent back in 2013 when Luis Robert was playing for Ciego de Ávila in the Cuban National Series.

Game gone final Sox win. Shane smith first ML win

Final

I mean, no there is no shame in being a back of the rotation starter in 2025.  That is a super valuable resource, especially if they can go 150ish innings a season.  But he has to a little bit less hittable to get there, and I think he can.  He's never going to be great, but I can squint and see him yoyo-ing around a 4.5 era on an annual basis.

What about short relief- harness what he has for a inning or 2 a few times a week.  A lot of good reliever came via the starter path.

Congrats to Smith

Is a pretty good rotation if we can find another above average starter.

Canon could still end up a 4 or 5.  But regardless, they'll need a lot more starting depth than this.  They'll need a bullpen too.

And given the sorry results they get from drafting position players, it may be best to move one or both of the Smiths for young hitters...which would mean they need more hitting.

Right now we need starters.  You can always shove him out there if he gets beaten out later.

I guess it is fine to score three runs or less as long as you shut out the other team but the Twins starter wasn't that good and they could only get two runs off him.

That's not very good is it?

Didn’t seem like the most fun conditions to play in, so just take the W.

Robert is the Barron von Trump of baseball.

With a crochet L today and a Smith win, the two pitchers now have the same winning percentage. I’m just saying.

So is Smith immediate trade bait if he keeps this up?

What?  Why?  We own him for six year.

because they're that far away from doing anything

I consider anyone currently in the system potential trade bait.

A 30 game improvement from last year is still 90 losses.

You do realize that would make them even further away, right? Your logic is incredibly flawed.

How are they going to score runs?

I'll wait.

He’s 25.  They may as well trade Meidroth right now then too.

Yeah, whenever he establishes himself.

Then you trade him in 2 or 3 years when you know better what you need vs literally everything now, including starting pitching

Trading him before the 2026 deadline would be premature. I dont think he'd garner enough in return without a longer track record. I have no idea how they are going to bridge the chasm between now and when anyone they can draft & develop could be ready, but trading Smith doesnt really solve any of that.

We have no idea who’s going to continue to develop and stay healthy and who might implode.  Us Sox fans should know that better than anyone.  Just keep trying to stockpile players who can provide a positive WAR.

Draft and develop players, hopefully. Sign free agents, hopefully. Trading close major leaguers for less close major leaguers is insane.

Only players you rush to trade are closers before your contention window opens up fully...yes more cliches/adages.

As for Cali...until Quero Meidroth Baldwin Vargas Sosa put up at least a 725 ops for one season...hard to declare any early victories, let alone diagnose Robert.
