GreenSox
Benintendi and tauchman do not help the team now; they do not help the future. Rojas, Slater, etc. Why are we wasting time with these stiffs? Elko has 3 homers in less than 2 weeks; 3 in 32 PAs. 30/320, 60/640. Just saying. Send him away? What are we doing here? OF=Bellinger, Mullins, Trent Grisham, Austin Hays, Mike Yastrzemski, Laureano and Harrison Bader...that's IT. 1B/DH The aging Paul Goldschmidt, really. Pete Alonso is obviously out of the price range. Same with Schwarber, Marcel Ozuna and Josh Naylor. Relief pitchers...Helsley, Weaver, Devin Williams, R. Iglesias, Yates, Romano, Finnegan, K.Jansen 12. Munetaka Murakami, Yakult Swallows 3B, age 26 (9) The highly-touted Japanese slugger has been sidelined with a vague upper body injury since our most recent free-agent update and sinks on the list as a result. In the 2023 WBC, a 23-year-old Murakami hit fifth for champion Japan, slotted right behind Shohei Ohtani and Masataka Yoshida. He and the Swallows have had this upcoming winter circled for some time as the moment Murakami would make the MLB leap. But if his jump-year continues to be so thoroughly derailed by injuries, there’s a chance the NPB’s all-time single season domestic home run leader stays in Japan for one more year. HoosierSox
Teel is raking in Charlotte as well. Why are we still playing these stiffs like Vaughn, Tauchman, Slater, Rojas. I would rather see Julks or Fletcher. Elko is better defensively and hits for more power than Vaughn and is not afraid to walk. Why not send Vaughn down, he sucks. Bob Sacamano
Kind of expected this but he'll be back. Gotta get whatever you can out of Vaughn and his $6.5M price tag! Edited May 23 by Bob Sacamano

I kind of doubt he will be back to be honest. He was the best hitter in minor league baseball. That still didn't earn him a spot here. I doubt he can keep that level up. They've fucked with him enough already by not giving him consistent at bats.

WBWSF
Elko being sent down is crazy but I'm not surprised. These goofs who run this show don't think much of Elko. Recently Elko hit a home run in a game and was later removed for a pinch hitter. Obviously he is not in their future plans. Steve Stone who has become a notorious houseman has pointed out a few times that Elko has the one thing in MLB that teams are looking for, POWER. I'm curious to see what Stone says about Elko being demoted. I would guess he won't say anything. I hope the White Sox have the decency to release Elko. He would be picked up by some team and be a starter. If they released Vaughn I don't think any body would pick him up and start him in the MLB. He would probably be picked up by somebody and be in the Minors. Edited May 23 by WBWSF

Tauchman and Beni are an enormous upgrade on what we've been playing in the OF. Are they part of the future? Of course not. But neither is Josh Palacios or Corey Julks.

Princess Dye
i know it will be unacceptable to the masses here but: what matters more is maybe getting Vaughn hot enough to trade him for some teams #30 prospect. he would have to get really hot. but there is still something to gain there (he obviously will not be here in 2026, but a trading team would get control for 2026, so they could make the decision) Elko development is less important than that. Because we are going to be bad for awhile so Elko can feel free to develop after the trade deadline, and that lost time is not going to really matter much in the grand scheme. He'll either get it or he wont but experience from now-to-deadline wont make or break that. He also may honestly not be more than like a second division regular 1B, even though right now our eyes are very wide open over him
Tony
11 hours ago, ChiSox59 said: I mean, he hasn't been good. I would have optioned AV, but don't feel this is worth too much hand wringing. You def can't carry 3 catchers and 2 1B so if you're not optioning Elko, it was going to be Quero when Lees rehab is up in a few days anyway. The problem is this decision simply came down to cost. When they got in a room and discussed roster moves, Andrew Vaughn's salary played a major role in the discussion. And we're not talking about a player making $25 million a year. Tim Elko has done everything he can do in AAA. He's 26, this team is one of the worst in the league, and the player "blocking" Elko has the worst WAR in the major leagues right now. Literally out of 1,112 players, Andrew Vaughn is No. 1,112 in MLB in 2025. He's had over 2,400 PA's with the White Sox in his career, and has totaled -1.7 WAR during that time. Tim Elko will be a distant memory for MLB in 4-5 years, there is a more than good chance he's a AAAA player, will thrive in Japan. But the Sox have NO REASON not to find out right now...but simply don't want to swallow the $5.8 million price tag of Vaughn, because they don't care about the product they put on the field. 1

Let me say it for the folks in the back. ANDREW VAUGHN HAS BEEN THE WORST PLAYER IN BASEBALL THIS YEAR. Tim Elko would have more value on the trade market than Andrew Vaughn, for a number of reasons. Your premise makes no sense
