Sox 50 game report...

From the Sun-Times:

The unreliable offense and shaky bullpen are largely why the Sox have the same record as last season. They have blown eight saves in 12 opportunities.

The bullpen’s ERA was 24th in the majors. Of the relievers who’ve pitched more than 10 innings, six of the eight have an ERA of 3.00 or higher.

And more often than not, the Sox’ offense hasn’t produced enough runs when needed to support the rotation.

Getz said the goal this past offseason was hiring director of hitting Ryan Fuller, Venable and the rest of the coaching staff. With the Sox being more pitcher-oriented, Getz said the organization needs to “focus on bringing in players that can help us on the offensive side.”

Did not realize we have the same record, that's hilarious.

Yeah, but last year’s team put up two significant losing streaks that started right about now and the ramped Crochet down, and traded Fedde. Truly an historic season.

Yeah but it was also right about now where we were all thinking "ah we stabilized the ship, just gonna be a regular bad season".

Anyway I don't think it'll happen again but yeah we basically didn't win in July last year.

I don't know, depending on who they are able to deal away near the deadline this year this team could still get much worse.

This team could also get better. The bullpen has blown 8 of 12 save opportunities. That is crazy. It is possible they bring up guys like Pallette, Coffey, Wikelman, and *shudder* Grant Taylor *shudder* and suddenly have a reasonable bullpen. That would change their inability to win one-run games significantly.

Things are definitely better this year.  It isn't always easy to notice, but they haven't had any of the prolonged stretches of terrible so far this year, like they did last year.  They do seem more competitive, buthe big problem is we still aren't playing enough of the guys we need to learn about to do it, so longer term it isn't really helping us.

Which part? Blowing 2/3 of your save opps, or only having 12 save opps through 50 games?

I don’t see anything different under Will after 50 games than 2024. Same mistakes on defense and mental errors.

It's not all on the manager and coaches, "baseball-stupid" players have some responsibility as well.
