Two years too late, but hopefully I never have to see him again in a Sox uniform (if I’m ever able to watch a Sox game again this year). No longer watching games? Hate to hear that. tray
I pretty much agree that Elko should have been given a longer look. That said, sending Vaughn and Elko down seems to make sense if the purpose was to cut down on non-competitive at-bats, easy strike-outs in key at-bats, double play balls, and especially in Vaughn's case, a lack of speed on the bases. One theory is that the Sox could be manipulating the roster to eventually open up a roster spot for Colson. I hope that isn't the case. PitchatRisktoZisk
Only 3'ish years too late. They forced him into the lineup to justify the draft slot. Then they threw him into the outfield and said "good luck". He should sue the organization for malpractice. He is permanently broken and I doubt our "development staff" can fix him. Really sad. One of the last victims of Hahn forcing people into spots where they didn't belong due to a lack of minor league depth. Remember when they wanted to try Burger at 2B or corner OF? Sheets as well never should have spent one day in the OF. And binging Rojas on board is forcing Vargas and Sosa to play away from their best positions as well as putting them at the one position they won't be able to carry offensively...which is first base. At any rate, Elko and Vaughn now have a head to head competition for 1B back in Chicago. Ramos and Colson, meanwhile, are fighting for their careers. And Lee Thaiss Quero and Teel fighting their own catching battles as well as 1B/DH until that all sorts itself out. But having some real competition is actually a good thing to finally see. It also seems to have brought out the best in Baldwin so far...that jarring AAA wake up call.
Chimpton
Do we think that AV will be back in a few weeks with the claim he has 'fixed' things while at Charlotte or is this demotion a long term thing?

No idea. Depends mostly on Vargas Sosa Elko and Vaughn himself. Trade window would suggest 1-2 weeks at most to heal thyself.

Gavin Sheets, 1B/OF, San Diego Padres (13%) Sheets raced out to a scorching start for San Diego and never really faded. He's coming off a two-homer, five-RBI game on Thursday, which gives him eight bombs for the year. He was a buzzy name in the spring (6 HR, 1.077 OPS) and he's carried that level of performance into the regular season. Sheets has made significant gains in bat speed and exit velo, improvements that have clearly boosted his fantasy profile. GreenSox
Now Elko has Vaughn to mentor him! If they are actively working with Elko to shore up his deficiencies, that's fine; but if this is just to make room for utility veterans coming off of the injured list or to make room for Rojas to play 3d, it’s just silly. Elko already won a game for the Sox.
