He already had a good approach and good pitch recognition. He then gained 20 lbs of muscle because they wanted him to drive the ball more. He was still making weak contact however so they identified something in biomechanics that they thought higher hands and flatter (horizontal ) bat pre-pitch would help. Robert is more complex. He's never had a good approach or particularly good pitch recognition which is why with so much bat speed and physical talent he can look so bad. Robert's problem is that he can no longer consistently hit first pitch fastball hard. Everything else is downstream imo. I don't know if you can fix his swing at this point in season. It's just that rain forecasts have been frustrating as hell the past two springs/summers. Just loading up for days at a time. And always hitting on Saturday. And always hitting on Saturday. spent 5 very good years in sunset park and prospect heights. haven't been back since covid tho. Moved out to PNW in 2012 but still rep NYC forever. Wow! Let's go. Tauchmann's got a little gas left in the tank.

I wondered if that was the case with guys like Mantle. Sometimes I wonder if more muscle mass = more injuries. There are plenty of skinny guys in the HoF. Yet we never hear want some of these guys like Brett, Gwynn, Henderson, and so many others did in the off season. They fear could be it denies much science in modern sports. We live in an age where more athletes are more brittle. It is a mystery and no credible answers. It's not even worth trying to explain so don't bother.
