i feel like he's the only guy in the lineup that actually tries to crush the fucking ball over the fence

Honestly I look at Robert's swing and wish he'd just cut it loose like that but now his swing is so controlled. He looks so stiff up there.

Good WIN.  Great catch by Montgomery.  Looks like a major leaguer in his first game.

Watching Colson in the post game show he said he didn't get a good jump on it because he slipped .

First Sox game I have watched start to finish in a long time. I really hope Montgomery can hit consistently because a combo of him and Meidroth could be special. I love Quero and Teel. They say Championship teams are strong up the middle and they have a nice start. Need to find a CF with some pop in his bat. Need to find a couple more position players who can hit with power. Sounds like they have a few really good arms down in the minors that can be added to the few already up here.

Hopefully Ishbia will start infusing money in to the organization sooner than later and they can grab a couple FA's and start getting competitive in a weak Central Division. All in all I feel a little more positive regarding the Sox future than I did going in to the season.

I really wish Robert Jr. could figure it out.  He's great except with the bat.  He still has power, but he seems to have lost the ability to hit generally.

Top flight organizations don't generally let their premium players suffer through multi-year long slumps like the Sox do.  Once a player becomes bad for that long, it's probably near impossible to break out of it.  Your mechanics and swing have become permanently fucked

Montgomery with a first.

Then, in his first trip to the plate, he reached base on a catcher’s interference call -- making him the first player in the Expansion Era (since 1961) to do so in his first MLB plate appearance, per the Elias Sports Bureau.

Aren't we going overboard here?  He's pitching against the Rockies

It's more about his body of work since they got him. He's got the lowest 2nd lowest ERA in baseball in the last idk I forget but that part of the post game show should be on YouTube soon under CHSN. Post game shows almost always are . Usually the 1st 20 or so minutes of it.

It's a beautiful Friday for the 4th of July, but in my headcanon they mostly showed up for Colson's debut, Quero fireworks, and Grant Taylor fastballs.

Luckily Houser was pitching not Cannon. I don't think Cannon is going to fair very well in that stadium. He seems to be a flyballs pitcher.

However It's not good to underestimate him because he knows what he doing out there. He just doesn't execute it. The command still needs work. Maybe he can give the Sox 5 decent innings . Anything more than 3 runs and I don't trust the offense to step up. But it can happen.

Didn't watch, but I'm assuming it was something like second lowest ERA since he signed, min 50IP

The one on the post game show had Framber Valdez 1st. So maybe a slightly different time period .

Since May 20th lowest ERA

Framber Valdez 1.57

Houser 1.60

Skubal 1.64

Degrom 1.97

Kikuchi 2.05

Funny all the ERA for Houser ,Skubal and Degrom are the same it's just the guy at the top is different.

they grab FA every year under the guise of dumpster dives.  I can't imagine any quality free agent would ever want to sign here.   This organization has a lousy reputation with fans, media, and some former players.   I can't imagine big name players ever wanting to be here.  You end up paying a lot of money for a guy like Beni.

I base his value on being on a team for a couple months. What does a GM trade for that?  We shall see.

I thought you got credit for a hit when it's catcher's interference. I see he had no hits today. So what is it? Hopefully not an out on your BA since it's ruled an error by catcher. If it's an out, that's a rule baseball needs to change. It should be a hit.

You're maybe thinking of when a batted ball hits a baserunner.... catcher's interference has no statistical result for the batter.

"When a runner is hit by a batted ball in fair territory, the play is ruled a dead ball, the runner is out, and the batter is awarded a single while the closest defender is credited with the putout. However, there are exceptions to this rule where runners are allowed to advance to the next base."
