Maybe Antonacci...if he's not at second. The next time an entire list of names becomes relevant in the future will be the first.

The Sox get to make the choice of giving him $20 million for 2026 or the $2 million buyout, not Robert. And you have to assume the Sox made the decision to pay him for next season. Otherwise, why not just trade him for a weak return anyways? How can they decide that without seeing the final two months play out? Blind faith alone? The last month of play has now convinced them he's finally back to 2023 peak Robert?
greg775
Mead sounds good. They should call him "Lake." Simple nickname. Tauchmann deserves our praise not scorn. He's almost hitting .300 which puts him at No. 18 overall in AL. He is a stud. 1

Doesn’t seem like they will be spending on starting position players in the offseason. If they don’t pick up the option and see if Robert can increase his value by either the offseason or the next trade deadline, and instead give him his $2 million buyout, they fucked up period by not just accepting a lesser return for him. Surprise, GM’s have to plan ahead! Edited July 31 by WhiteSox2023
Jake
I have no clue why the Rays gave up so much for Adrian Houser while selling some of their other big league pieces. They currently have a 10% probability of making the playoffs per FanGraphs.

No list needed to figure out that. This stupid franchise deserves to be contracted.

I am dubious they would, but a decision had to be made before Getz decided to pass on any offers for Robert. I assume it was discussed already between Getz and Jerry. zisk
If Getz thinks getting another Vargas might help, he should be fired right now. Nothing against MV, but he'll never be an assett on a good team. 17 minutes ago, DirtySox said:
Jake
Folks not appreciating that Mead is a premium hitting talent who has never gotten more than 135 plate appearances in a single MLB season to get anything going. If you insist on getting a player who has never failed before you are likely to only get one who fails in the future. Mead's initial call-ups have seen him blocked by some legit major leaguers around the infield: Isaac Paredes, Wander Franco, Brandon Lowe, Yandy Diaz, Jose Caballero, Junior Caminero, Jonathan Aranda, etc. It's not like the Rays have been starved for 3B/2B production and gave him every chance but he failed (like what happened with Vargas in LA). Mead has been doing injury fill-ins, occasional platoons, etc. Not a perfect environment for success. That doesn't mean he's a guaranteed superstar or something, but if all you do is glance at the back of the baseball card you're missing important information. Houser has pitched fantastically for the past 11 or 12 starts with all signs pointing to him pitching something more like "competently" for the rest of the season before he becomes a free agent. I think that has real value to the right team, but the Sox got some real value coming back. 1 1 1
SoCalChiSox
Not a bad return here. We will see what Fuller can do with Mead. The arms also seem interesting.

There’s no reason to be excited until these guys (Vargas and Mead) prove they can hit consistently and not just hover around a .700 OPS and 1 WAR. 1

There are some things on his swing he still needs to work on but he has the look of a solid 2 WAR player with a bit more consistency. 1

I do have enough data to look at it but I've had a hard time getting someone to define post-hype prospect. The implications here would be that models move projections too soon, and weight that mlb performance too heavily, for a given subset of former prospects deemed post hype. I would be interested in diving into this but need some fixed parameters that aren't feels.
