  • They don’t have anywhere near enough pitching to compete if they kept Robert. None of this is about 2026.

    According to whom?

  • The problem is, if you commit to him being full-time DH, you’re relegating Quero to the bench. And I’d rather rotate the catchers there to get them the most at bats in a lost season.

The Luis Robert experience continues for one more year in Chicago. Maybe this is finally the year he stays healthy and puts up a monster year! Stop me if you've heard that one before...

Why some of the media acted like they weren’t going to pick it up was so weird. Getz literally said they were the entire time.

The other thing that's inarguably less valuable with Robert's current deal is that option years or financial commitments for 2027 are to be avoided rather than embraced...by all but the wealthiest of teams.

this is the move a team makes that isn't afraid of Money spending. The only issue is IF this blocks signing any top FAs on their radar (I KNOW. I KNOW).

Yeah. I understand the move, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I like the move.

If they got him back to play him again, it is one thing.  If this is because they want to try to trade him for the same package of garbage they wouldn't take 3 months ago, this is stupid.

I think their desire is to trade him

It was a slam dunk when they didn’t trade him

Yeah, one less year of control now. If you hold onto him until say July, what kind of offer are you looking at now? Probably pretty similar to last July.

When you are a bad team, you take your swings on upside.

So very few centerfielders can hit. Its a name that you know. And honestly, he seems like a good dude. Just can't produce or stay healthy consistently.

I love robert.

Yeah and the payroll is so low. They should be willing to eat half (if not more honestly) to get the best package available). Hopefully some team is aggressive and thinks he can play to his potential and deals for him in the offseason.

can't wait til all the low IQ players are gone

Or posters here.  It made no sense.  Once Getz made the decision not to trade Robert, he must have also discussed picking up Robert’s option and it was approved by Jerry.  Otherwise, you would simply trade Robert for whatever you could get, even if the return sucked.  Plus, the payroll is still so low, even after Robert’s $20 million option.

With typical Sox luck, he will either get injured in ST and/or right before the trade deadline, resulting in him sitting on the Sox roster all year until he becomes a free agent.

Eventually, this gamble will work!

That was Vaughn's problem?

Burger/Madrigal?

Keuchel?

Benintendi?

Lynn Kelly Graveman?

Why is it that Liam Hendriks was practically the only player universally praised upon leaving?

Sosa Leury Moncada Jimenez Anderson Robert Grandal the most thoroughly maligned.

Hmmm...

I know they said they would, but I'm surprised they actually picked this up.

Some weird takes here even if cynicism is warranted. I for one welcome watching Robert, hopefully motivated, healthy and in a slightly better lineup for another 70 or so games. He's a joy to watch on defense if absolutely nothing else.

Makes it almost impossible for the Sox to have a 30th place payroll, especially if the Marlins deal Alcantara...

Which is about as easy as moving Robert and Benintendi...

Teams treated him like a rental in trade talks in July. Curious to see what they think this winter.

100%. They were always picking up the option.

I don't really think I'd chalk that scenario up to bad luck.
