This reads like the kind of careful answer you give when you need to pretend he's not already your guy

Thinking that Roch Cholowsky is maxed out is fucking insane considering what the Sox have done with some hitters of late.

BA makes the cases for 3 guys at 1-1

That Y at the end makes the name Russky or Czech.

Still sounds like it though

this sure makes Emerson the most logical choice IMO. Allows Sox to get the best years of Colson at short and then decide if he moves to 3rd when Grady would be ready. One of Vargas/Colson/Mune potentially wouldn't be with the team in 2-3 years in this scenario (unless Mune becomes a full Time DH and either Vargas/Colson move to first. If they select Roch...I have no idea what they do with the current roster, as I would expect him up next year.

Taking a HS player with Lackey and Roch on the board based on a "timeline" would be the dumbest possible decision and one that could set the franchise back 5-6 WAR a season. Emerson is in no way a lock to be a star, in fact of the three at the top he's probably 2x more likely to bust as a HS kid with a long development path ahead. You don't take a HS kid here unless he's like Bryce Harper. He ain't that.

Take Roch, move Colson to 3b, Vargas to 1B when Mune goes elsewhere

I would use ARod as the example. Harper actually played 1 year of Junior College ball. But I agree with your premise.

Hey, I’m totally open to high schoolers after this franchise defaulted to college players forever with little results. You can’t tell a Sox fan that going college just because college is the right thing to do just because college yeah college!

Makes me feel better that they have realistic options if he leaves

I've been on the Roch train for the last month or so, for many of the reasons Jimmy has posted.

  1. I'd rather draft a SS over a catcher. They're more productive because they play more often and their body doesn't get beaten down like catchers. Catchers also tend to develop slowly.

  2. I don't see a big enough gap between Emerson and Roch that would lead me to wanting Emerson. Higher volatility and longer development time for the highschooler.

  3. Roch fits the timeline. He could make it up here next season potentially.

He's a really safe pick. His floor is a guy like Dansby Swanson. As others have said, he could be a guy like Tulo. Just pick him.

This has basically been my calculus as well, with some different logic for Lackey since my hope with him would be to see if he could stick in center.

Rock it in on July 11th with Thome hopefully in round 2. Seems to me that Thome and Emerson aren’t too far apart so you’d kind of be able to get near the prospect capital as the consensus top two talents.

Yah, Willie Mays started out 0 for 20 something. Robin was worse.

Mike Schmidt didn't exactly come out blazing either as I recall from the back of his baseball card.

The recent CBAs have arguably been terrible for the White Sox. By the league's internal metrics, the Sox are basically the poorest and worst off team that is classified as too rich and well-off to get any help from the revenue sharing and competitive balance systems. If the Sox do well financially, they will have to share a bit with the poorer teams. If they do poorly, they are on their own. And they get the big-market penalties with regard to draft lottery, compensatory picks, international spending, etc.

Not to mention the new draft rules seem to have been directly aimed at them while they ignored all the advantages given to the Astros who actually knew how to rebuild because they lost a crapload of games while Hahn and Co. actually kept signing free agents and won too much and never got the top pick.

It is easy to Monday morning QB on drafts selections/FA/ trades but kudos to the White Sox for standing above the crowd on signing Murakami. Remember Mune was the guy that couldn't hit MLB pitching.

Once the ball gets rolling on that kind of thing it gains momentum and even guys who think otherwise because of this little thing called making adjustments are afraid to be the lone wolf. You'll be remembered longer if you're wrong going against the grain than you will for being wrong as part of a group wrong.

Plus better to limit the young foreigners earning power. Owners could be driving that narrative just like they are trying to limit the HS kids in the draft. It follows suit that if you do that , you're older when you reach Free Agency and thus less super long, super expensive contracts. They hate those and Mune was in line to get one then all of a sudden he wasn't and he'll be 2 years older when he's gets another chance.

Take Emerson. When Mune leaves, we’ll have the same infield configuration we have now plus a budding Bryce Harper waiting in the wings.

Harper was a generational prospect. I don’t think Emerson is on that level.
