Luis Robert won't be on the next good White Sox team. Acuna and Pauley might be. It's basically that simple. The league just told you what Robert is worth. Holding him into the season would be insane.

Alrighty… so I think we see this playing out in the minds of our genius core at the front office as such:

1.) Pauley is the bank here for player development. They see things in the data and figure they’re buying a generally unknown with strong metrics modeled out.

2.) They’ve penciled Montgomery into RF, Benitendi in left, and figure to sign a veteran who was still standing when the music stopped for center field.

3.) They’ll likely play the brother in a super utility role nearly every day and hope to maximize his value with defense and on the base paths while trying to right his bat.

Most likely outcome: Robert has his best year as a Met and we end up with a middle bullpen arm who has a couple good years covering the 7th inning.

Best realistic hope: Pauley surprises and is a strong number three in the rotation come 2028.

PS ( poop script ) - Good on ya for the strong meme game.

It’s hard to blame Getz. This was clearly a mandate from above. Probably part of the price for green-lighting Murakami

It was a mandate from the market. Nobody has any faith in Robert.

Let’s be honest — Getz turned an actual asset into diminished goods and just got bent over a table by Stearns with no lube.

No, Getz turned a diminished asset into a younger 84 RC+ version of himself. I'm not sure how to express that as an anal sex metaphor.

Getz is to blame for not trading Robert sooner.  The Sox were never going to be competitive with Robert on the team.  He waited long enough for Robert’s value to be at its lowest and to have a $20 million dollar salary and a $2 million dollar buyout.  Getz has also been with the Sox long enough to know that the owner rarely, if ever, sends money in trades to improve the return.

I gotta believe Getz wanted to at least keep him up to the deadline, but Murakami shocked the world and Getz by signing. So down came the axe

Pathetic, the rumors of them being willing to send money were bogus

Jon Heyman for the W…

According to Heyman, “The Mets inquired about Luis Robert. But for the Mets to surrender prospects, they want money back to offset Robert’s $20M salary and hard-line White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf isn’t seen as likely to give money to Steve Cohen’s team.”

Nbb said the Murakami signing was an addition to the set budget.

A lot of things get said

Maybe I am mistaken but Getz became GM with Robert coming off of the best season in his career.  Getz immediately started another rebuild, waited too long to trade Robert, and watched his value diminish into that of a utility player.

If Getz can get praised for the Crochet trade, he should definitely be dumped on for this Robert trade.

This. Would you rather have Murakami or Robert? I think the answer is pretty easy. I wanted Robert gone, and I never expected anything of value in return. Hopefully Getz can utilize some of that $20M to make an addition or two. I won't miss Robert's grimacing face every time he hits the 1B bag running out a grounder.

Now do Benintendi

This!
Also I want nothing to do with Bader/Hays/Conforto, just let Acuna, Baldwin, Kelenic, and Pereira play as much as possible. Hell I’d rather Bryan Ramos get playing time out there too. The team isn’t contending so I just feel like the Bader, Hays, Conforto would just be taking ABs from the younger guys.

Acuña article from 2023 when he peaked on top 100 lists at #38 or some s%*# like that. Other publications had him bottom half of top 100 for both ‘23 and ‘24.

Dude is young. He also has shown a tendency to underperform when leveling up. The quote from that article that struck me most was something like,

he goes after pitches out of the zone which leads to poor contact strength but still managed a respectable ~20% strike out rate.”

Sound familiar?

A former top prospect and a 2025 draft pick with good stuff… we honestly shouldn’t have expected more at this stage in the “trade Robert game.”

It isn’t dead on arrival and yes, Robert should have been traded earlier… but if I could relive a few key choices in my life over again, I would have Jeff Bezos’s bank account and a hotter ex wife.

I think it’s horseshit to judge a young player on one season. If you’re going to talk s%*# and peg him as a 84 RC+ guy, at least call him a midget or something.

JR is very happy tonight as the Sox payroll is hitting ridiculous lows.

That being said Robert needed to go (a few years ago in fact...)

Thats my hope too… but knowing this group, I bet they sign someone with one knee left.

Conforto seems like an obvious choice.  Boras only works deals with the Sox when it’s his free agents that are on their last leg.

Kelenic knew.

“And then he was traded…”

Another thing I think this trade shows is we went for tools. The rumored Reds package was for like their number 12, 25, and an unlisted spec…

This deal we got a teams top prospect dating back just 2 years ago and a pitcher who I suspect they’ll say they like the stuff on.

So they were once again leaning on this as of yet unseen great development pipeline.

Bottom line here folks is we never really expected much from Robert so if either of these guys contribute even 1 WAR total over the next 7 years, it’s likely to be more that Luis was going to provide.

Good riddance to “The Next Mike Trout.”

Yikes. A weak centerpiece and a worthless 2nd piece.

i figured we could have done better. Whoa is me

‘Paid off’

Rest easy brother

Crazy how Acuna was rumored for the longest time to be involved in this trade.  Some people definitely had the scoop.

Too bad he turned out to be the top return in the trade when many were hoping he would be the secondary piece.

i dont expect Murakami was paid for by this trade. There was a long period of time between Murakami signing and this move. If Robert was to be salary dumped to pay for it, the Robert trade wouldve happened that same day. Luis couldve gotten offseason-injured in December and you'd have gotten nothing. So at the very least it was not a mandate to dump $

It makes me think some will be put back into the roster right now, if not all. a pitcher and a OF.

If there were any better offer than this last trade deadline, Getz fucked up royally. Even a comparable offer then makes more sense than hanging onto him, and picking up the option only to salary dump him for jack s%*# months later.

I know Getz is bad at this, but holy s%*# this chain of events makes my head hurt.

This trade leaves Andrew Benintendi as the last man standing for the Hahn/KW era.

I wish the team ate some money to get a better prospect return.

Luis Robert should be a lesson to GMs everywhere, when you start a rebuild it’s better to trade your premiere asset (2023 Luis Robert) coming off an hot season than not.
