LUIS ROBERT TRADED

No idea why you pick up the option if this is the return. A best-case bullpen guy and a 4th outfielder? Bleh.

Well because acquiring two players is better than paying $2M for him to go away???? Not saying this is a good move, but it's >>>> than not picking up the option.

Luis Robert won't be on the next good White Sox team. Acuna and Pauley might be. It's basically that simple. The league just told you what Robert is worth. Holding him into the season would be insane.

I regret to inform you it’s basically what he has been since 2023.

This obviously isnt true. Robert value has gone down every year since 2023. They could have moved him after one bad year and got much more.

Well, there could be an addition, if you like burnt toast outfielders like Michael Conforto.  I don’t care if Boras is his agent.  That dude has to hope that some team will offer him a cheap one-year deal to stave off retirement for another year.  Unfortunately, I could see the White Sox being the team to help him.

For years the White Sox have been the last stop for players who are about to retire. It’s really embarrassing to be the last option to stay in the league.

The Sox were worried about Crochet holding up as a starter like you said, but at least they sold him high and got a good return for him.  Crochet staying healthy and getting even better with the Red Sox is a big of hindsight.

Robert was just traded for the next Leury Garcia.

Big difference with these two trades.

Big difference in those two players also................. This is a salary dump pure and simple. The official end of the covid era rebuild. Got rid of a 22-40 million dollar contract and an unmotivated enigma of a player. The return is irrelevant.

A salary dump when they literally just picked up the salary lol

It wasn’t a $40 million dollar contract.  It was a guaranteed $22 million and they just decided to pay him that $22 million on November 4th..

Hope all you trade crazy posters are happy.  They lost an elite defensive center fielder who would give them 20 or more homers just to save money.

I don't know why anyone would have expected more in a return for Robert.  He's been pretty bad and/or hurt for years.  However, if none of the $20 million is spent on improving the team, it'll be a major disappointment.  Yes, I know, be ready to be disappointed.

I'm fine with a clean slate of Robert gone.  It was tiring seeing him show the occasional glimpse of hope to either snap a hamstring or forget how to swing a bat.

As far as Acuna, let him play and see what he's got.  This is one of the few teams he would get a shot to play all year in a starting role.  We'll see,

Benintendi should be our DH so the question is if  today was opening day what and who are the outfielders, this is very depressing.

Yes because he has been bad every year since 2023, like I said.

Mets fans everywhere are cheering.

He's hit 20 or more homers 1 time in his career. The man can not stay healthy.

2020: Debut season saw a hip issue and other minor problems.

2021: A complete tear of the right hip flexor sidelined him for over three months, impacting his Gold Glove year.

2022: Dealt with COVID-19, blurred vision, a sprained wrist, and a significant fractured scaphoid bone in his left wrist requiring surgery.

2023: Despite a strong start, faced a hamstring strain, hip issue, finger sprain, mild MCL tear, and missed the All-Star Game with a calf injury.

2024: A Grade 2 right hip flexor strain after opening day caused him to miss 62 games.

See how they feel when he is hurt and/or swinging at trash.

20million floor 40 million ceiling. They could have kept him 2027 also. He probably would have gotten hurt in spring training and play about 60 games. Getting anyone to take the whole 20 million would have been good enough. Now if we can dump JR Ishbia can start with a clean slate.

Not when is injured in spring training.

I think we were all hoping for a miracle with Robert, hard to argue with your points.

The Sox save the difference in the contracts of Robert vs Acuna.

They should be.  They essentially gave up a utility man for boom or bust potential.

So Getz will be spending $20 million on additional players this offseason?

1 hour ago, Look at Ray Ray Run said:

But but but, I thought getz wasnt actually trying to trade him unless he was blown away.

This team picked up an option to trade it to save money when they have a historically low payroll lol.

And they didn't have to trade him.  Hahahahaha

I guess Getz was lying when he stated on multiple occasions just how much the White Sox wanted Robert to be their CF.  I guess the opportunity to acquire Acuna with little power, low OBP and the ability to play 2B was too good to pass up.

"Blown away" by the chance to grab another post hype utility player.  Can't wait for his hot two weeks to declare this another win.

They'll tell us they already have with Murakami.

Did they really manage to spell “bobblehead” wrong?

No this is the generic, non-copyrighted version you don't have to pay royalties for.

This trade has me bummed out. There is no way it makes them better in 2026, which means that they feel zero urgency to not lose 100 games for the fourth year in a row. The number of failed prospects they’re hoping to catch lightning with would be very appropriate on a AAA team. It seems like they are comfortable running out absolute crap teams for the foreseeable future as long as they can have one of the three lowest payrolls in the league.

Might not make them better but does it make them worse? I don’t know. Robert has produced a combined 1.9 fWAR over the last two seasons. Acuna has produced 1.1 fWAR with far less playing time. Those two alone might be a wash in 2026. “If” the cost savings motivates them to sign a decent SP, which is sorely needed, overall they could end up being better in 2026 as a result of this trade.

That's the key.  If (big if) they spend some of that $20 million on a pitcher or two, this trade looks better.  I'm not concerned about not having the oft-injured Robert anymore, and Acuna could (big could) be decent.  But we've seen this low budget movie before.  Save money, don't spend money, cry about attendance and cost, repeat.

I love how Reinsdorf isn’t a fan of Cohen and didn’t want him as an MLB owner due to his big spending, but he has no problem helping Cohen’s team by dealing him Robert for a utility man as long as he doesn’t have to include any cash in the trade.  🤣

The sooner Jerry is gone, the better.
