23 hours ago23 hr I don't know anything about this new guy, but he has to be better than Sims. They wouldn't even walk guys to get to a pitcher because they were scared.
23 hours ago23 hr Surprised it's Sims and not Bido.Davis has looked fine last couple times I've seen him in Charlotte. Threw a two inning save striking out the side in the 9th in a shutty.96-98 with a high 80s slider. Don't recall him being wild.
23 hours ago23 hr Have to figure Wikelman is next for Bido. That guy stinksAlso thankful Sims is gone. Guy can't find the plate either

23 hours ago23 hr How much longer can they keep trotting Acuna out there? 25 wRC+ and -.4 fWAR. I'd hope his leash isn't too much longer. Try anybody else.

Try anybody else.It hasn’t been long enough yet for Getz to admit that he got jobbed in the trade. I think the quickest he dumped a “somewhat big” trade acquisition was Curtis Mead, whom was acquired at last year’s trade deadline and DFA’ed and later traded to the Nationals to finalize the Sox opening day roster.

He seems to give good shots to guys, then move on when they're not running with it. I'm not sure where this "admitting they were wrong" stuff comes from. If your task is gathering a group of 5 guys to see if there's an actual player in the group, if one is a success, the other four aren't necessarily failures.

I don't see much of a player in Acuna, and for all the talk of Vargas' swing change it was really adding 12 good lbs of muscle the last two offseasons that took him from a marginal to solid starter.

The Dodgers didn't really have the 26-man roster space to wait for Vargas to add 12 pounds of muscle and drop his hands consistently. The Rays didn't feel that had that for Pereira. The Sox are in that period of their rebuild.
22 hours ago22 hr Comments from Sox coaches to James Fegan recently makes me think the Sox intend to give Acuna a reasonably long leash and see some of his issues at the plate as partly due to changes they have made him make. I'm perfectly happy to keep running him out there because he's got a little talent and he's not blocking anyone important.

Certainly not an average starter at his position, especially given how deep 3rd base is (He was 16th of 18 qualified 3rd baseman last year)It's still early, but his gains this year have been actually really interesting. First, he's just swinging the bat harder, and a good bit harder - almost 2.5 MPH harder - and he's swinging harder more often. Funny remembering the story about Quero adding 3 MPH to his swing speed at drive line, while he's actually only up .5 MPH.He's also just not swinging at pitches out of the zone. He's always been a pretty disciplined hitter, but so far he's taken it to the next level, and the pitches he has swung at out of zone he has hit often and hard (as if he's swinging because he's looking there). He's been one of the most unlucky hitters in MLB this year. My only hesitance is he's a streaky hitter who has had really good 30 day runs before, but this one does look different to me. And agree, it's just the strength. Edited 21 hours ago21 hr by Look at Ray Ray Run
21 hours ago21 hr Any futuresox guys who can give any insights what is going on with Wikelman Gonzalez and why he isn't on the MLB roster? This Davis guy is 27 and has an almost 5 ERA in AAA right now, what are we doing? Edited 21 hours ago21 hr by BigHurt3515

Any team that woulds take on $20M is not going to give anything of real value.

16 hours ago16 hr Sox Machine comments on the move:"Whenever Davis does pitch, he will be the 39th player utilized by the White Sox this season, and the 17th relief pitcher (Reese McGuire doesn't count). One wonders how much Chris Getz and Co. are watching what Peyton Pallette is doing with Cleveland and wondering if they made this way too hard on themselves. If you haven't been watching Pallette, he just picked up his first career victory with a scoreless eighth inning against Houston on Tuesday. It wasn't in the typical leverage situation that "victory with a scoreless eighth inning" suggests, as he entered with the Guardians trailing by two, and then they scored six in the bottom of the eighth. Still, he's shown an early ability to bounce back from rocky outings, and so he's clearing the Rule 5 bar with room to spare thus far: 10.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 4 BB, 11 K, 2 HBP."
15 hours ago15 hr I think losing Vasil for the season really took them off guard. He was such a weapon out of the pen last year, really stabilized things.

It became obvious that Getz made that trade without even knowing whether Aucna was a switch hitter or whether he could ever be a starting CFer in the major league. Tristan Peters and Derek Hill have played well in CF (and have provided some notable offensive moments). OTOH, Acuna has shown the opposite - he has issues judging flyballs, his throws have been wild, and he can't hit , at least not well enough to outweigh his defensive liabilities. And yes, there is no doubt that Getz is in defensive mode on that trade. That and I believe Acuna may be out of options. IMO, if Braden was even close to ready, or if Hays leg injury was rehabbed, Acuna would be a reluctant but well justified DFA.Edited to add - to the extent Ozzie can sway Sox management a bit about a fellow Venezuelan player, maybe his promotion of Acuna matters. Acuna has also bobbled some ground balls and Venable has not used him as in infielder that much, so I don't think that his glove on the infield is worth anything to this team. DFA, and don't look back. Edited 12 hours ago12 hr by tray
