Love the progress but no reason whatsoever to sell off your minor leaguers unless it's for other minor leaguers.

They might sell off Dominquez , Hays if they can or even Grichuk or Kay but not many starting pitchers to call up left.

Kay signed 2 years with a $10M 2028 option . He might be worth keeping.

The Sox should keep their strength in the system for now. Don’t be shortsighted

They are still too far away on the pitching side. If Schultz came up and just took the league by storm, that would have changed the equation, but they just don't have the arms.

Getz has a tricky rope to walk (assuming they are still playing competitive ball around the deadline) but I would not move assets for a one year rental. If there is a player available to bring into the "core", and it happens to be at the deadline, so be it.

Correct. Patience, grasshoppers

I really hope the Tigers hold onto Skubal and get nothing for him. Certainly don't need them loading up with young players. They already have several coming soon.

And the Sox trading for him would be ridiculous. It would cost Bonemer; I'm not totally adverse to trading him, but for fair value, which would 3 pitchers (1 major leaguer; 2 good prospects), not one (trade, not a buy). Still Skubal absolutely is an ace, versus faux aces like Alcantra or Webb.
Don't be like Hahn or late-era Williams.

Exactly. Such a Sox thing to do is to empty out the minors trying to take shortcuts which always fail

I want to find the 2026 version of Freddy Garcia at the deadline and in the offseason the 2027 version of Contreras. 😆

Contreras was a deadline deal - swap of veterans. Maybe we could do Anthony Kay for...
Garcia trade was not a good one; but signing him as a FA was a great move.

If it wasn't for these anti-tanking rules (it's not like the Sox sucked on purpose), we'd have Cade Anderson waiting in the wings.
Bonemer for Anderson....

That’s right - we picked him up from the Yankees in 04 and he didn’t really harness his command and potential until the offseason coming into 05.

If we could get two good or even solid bullpen arms to get rid of Richards and any of the bottom two lefties plus another starter I would be pretty happy

Once the roster has finally been assembled with Teel and Mune, this team could conceivably make a run in the playoffs ... provided that the rotation and bullpen will be fortified.

Things can come together quickly with a few prescient moves by the front office, from JR down. They need to be in it ($) to win it.

I have no doubt the org has been establishing a list of low cost, high upside pitchers for the last month who they believe will benefit from our pitching development and contribute quickly.

I don’t expect anything fancy or big. In fact, I worry that sort of deal, bringing in a big name, could upset this team’s “why not us” mission. A very underwhelming move or two will be made, Soxtalk will erupt in frustration, and the 2-3 pitchers they get will be strong contributors by mid-August.

June 15th is a common opt out date for vets on MiLB deals if they just want to start by looking for their next Houser

I said it in another thread, but I view the bullpen as being five deep at the moment in Taylor, Dominguez, Hudson, Newcomb, & Davis. After that, it’s a complete crapshoot. Given Hicks’ salary, once healthy, he’ll probably be given a chance until the trade deadline, but if that BB rate doesn’t improve drastically, then he needs to be DFA’d and replaced. Leasure is also hurt and I don’t think we can rely on him even if he comes back healthy at some point. And I have little faith in the lefty trio of Eisert, Gilbert, & Murphy to deliver right now.

I didn’t mention Richard, but I think he gets replaced with Fedde or maybe Kay long-term once some of our SPs come back from injury. I actually think Kay as a swingman eventually could work well for us. If so, that’s two middle relief that would need to be filled if everyone else stays healthy. Internally, there are some options potentially, but none of them are high confidence. If Gonzalez can ever get healthy again (no idea his status), he may be one of two exceptions as he was pitching his ass off before injury and has the stuff to match it. Sandlin is the other if we’re willing to forgo him as SP depth. If not, I really think we have to go outside the org to fill these holes.

Senzatela might be the most popular option here because he's excellent as a reliever this year but has a starter's stamina.

Casey Mize is going into FA. He seems much likelier than Wacha/Lugo/Ryan.

Adrian Morejon if the Padres decide to sell. Steep price to pay for one of best lefty high leverage guys.

Nick Martinez would be perfect if he wasn't on the Rays.

Iriarte and Peoples might be worth a shot before the deadline. Iriarte lost it last year but seems back on course though I don't know how his stuff is now.

Detmers name has come up in someone that the Sox might be interested in. I caught a little bit of Angels game on MLB last night after the Sox game. Detmers looked dominant against the Astros, large and in charge, power lefty, 26 years old.

The challenge for those two and Pallette is going to be the roster crunch. The Sox are going to be very carful not to add more guys to the 40 man if they have to potentially DFA them a few weeks / months later. At some point, one of them could force the issue, but my guess is they will go through all other options already on the 40 man before doing so.

The Updated 2026 MLB Trade Deadline Big Board

The 2025 MLB season had one of the wildest trade deadlines in history, and we're now less than two months from finding out if the 2026 version can live up to it.

Luis Castillo, Bubic (least $$$), Robbie Ray also could fit ... Casey Mize due to health and FA year.

Detmers

Senzatela

Sugano having a really solid year for Colorado

I really think we should prioritize a rental SP over a controllable one. IMO, this is an area where we should spend some real money on in the offseason so we can avoid using our best prospects via trade. As such, focusing on rental SPs at the deadline would be the preferable approach, especially ones who may have sizable salaries and would come a bit cheaper in terms of prospect cost.

One name that comes to mind is Sonny Gray. Boston is a disaster this season and Gray is in the last year of his deal. He’s effectively owed $21M if you factor in his buyout for next year and the money the Cardinals are paying. Unless the Red Sox were to eat money, you’re looking at $7M of salary to take on. Would Reinsdorf absorb this amount of money? I’d hope so with attendance likely above expectations. Is Gray the right level of impact and fit? I’d need to do more diligence on why his K rate is down so much and what kind of teammate he is, but conceptually he’s exactly what I’d be looking for in a rotation upgrade.

I can remember Baltimore a few years back and they were stacked with prospects, but they held instead of trading. With the first pick in the draft the Sox could be more willing to trade some youngsters.

For real. Don't Baltimore ourselves while the iron is hot.

Getting Detmers won't empty the system and then the Sox can roll with Martin, Detmers, Burke and an amalgamation of Schultz/S.Smith/H.Smith/Sandlin/Kay/Fedde

Carlson or Gonzalez would be the two biggest trade chips right now...but not sure if that's wise if they don't select Cholowsky, since Bonemer definitely won't remain at SS and Gonzalez is at least one tier below even Meidroth there and needs to focus on playing second/first/DH.

Selling low on Carlson would be dumb anyway...unless there were concerns he would never even put up 700 ops numbers.

That pitching is still a little scary. The back end part and having to rely on unproven guys anyway.

Derek Hill traded. Looks like they are selling!!!!!!!!!!’

Cash considerations for everyone!!!
