I have no qualms about the move. Ive never been much of a believer in a team rushing a guy and ruining him. All big leaguers will struggle at some point in their professional career. How they adjust to that differentiates those who succeed from those who dont. Im skeptical that the timing of that challenge matters much.

I get being upset with what they did with Andrew Vaughn. But Braden has been handling AA and AAA well this season. I'm fine with the timing of this, especially with our OF being pretty weak currently.

  • How many more times does @ron883 have to be vindicated? First with the prediction of Sam Antonacci's (The Chairman of the Board's) greatness. Now the Braden Montgomery call up. I'm sure there's more I

  • So cool, I befriended one of his family members before the draft and it’s the nicest family ever.

Hays is technically playable against RHP whereas Grichuk is a platoon only guy. But with Antonacci, Peters, & Braden your starting OF against RHP, Hays’ ability to be league average against them is far less important.

Yeah he’s supposed to be a regular but not really needed anymore as a starter or even platoon bat

It’s painfully obvious he’s not strong enough to be a big leaguer

I posted this before, but the dude has a 0.050 ISO in the minors. I can't find any examples of a player that weak succeeding in the majors.

Get him some Nugenix.

She’ll like it too.

He’s worth having around. Good hitter, and would be an excellent bench bat… at least until he inevitably gets injured again.

Nah he's still an easy choice, they just wont eat the money even though you have to pay him either way. The last 2 games he's batted 3rd and has been pinch hit for in both games. Ridiculous. I would love to know how many times in all of MLB this season has a teams 3rd batter been pinch hit for. Gotta be really rare unless you're the Chicago White Sox.

A light hitting DH only who is literally unplayable against LHP. He's hurting the rosters overall flexibility.

I don’t disagree, just knew they wouldn’t do it.

Is anybody familiar with his defense? I see on fangraphs they give him a 35/60 FV grade for defense. I'm not sure when that was last updated, and whether that is for him as a CFer or RFer. I'm assuming that is for RF. He doesn't appear to be too fast based on the stolen base numbers.

Chris Getz last week:

"He has been playing right field and center field, and there will be times that we ask him to play center field," Getz said. "But we see him getting most of his reps in the corner, right field. I think there will be a time that he comes up here and helps this club."

I guess we'll see him in RF mostly. He's split time between RF and CF in the minors.

I don’t think he’ll be here very long. Think he’s a bridge for Hagen.

How so? 23 years old slashing .314 / .422 / .970 between AA-AAA

K and BB numbers nearly identical from AA and AAA. What more is there to do in AAA?

Ground ball rate has ballooned up in AAA and is a legit concern

Braden is a good defender, especially in right. His arm is elite. Among the top ten in the sport.

Hagen has to built a bridge for himself and NOT walk over it.

Acuna is out of options. If you want to demote him, you gotta DFA.

Yes…poor wording there, but I think that’s what it’s going to come to at some point. Once Murakami, Teel, & Pereira are all back (cross fingers), who are the two guys who get DFA’d or optioned? Acuna feels like the one slam dunk IMO.

Lineup:

  • 1B: M. Murakami (L)

  • 2B: C. Meidroth (R)

  • SS: C. Montgomery (L)

  • 3B: M. Vargas (R)

  • LF: S. Antonacci (L)

  • CF: T. Peters (L)

  • RF: B. Montgomery (S)

  • DH: A. Benintendi (L)

  • CA: K. Teel (L)

Bench options:

  • IF: Gonzalez (L)

  • OF: Pereira (R)

  • OF: Grichuk (R)

  • OF: Hill (R)

  • UT: Acuna (R)

I just want a RF that can hit 250/300/400 and prevent balls into the corner going for triples and turning balls at the wall into outs 95% of the time. We haven't had a competent everyday RF in forever.

Meh, Colson Montgomery was practically dead in the water until his callup. If they think he's ready, LFG.

I’m not complaining about..this is super exciting news. Just explaining the concern that myself and some others have regarding the timing.

This lineup is going to be beastly when Teel returns. Goodness.

Eaton the year before he was traded and Avisail Garcia had one really strong season as well.

After Braden throws out the first guy trying to stretch a single into a double they can cue up Aerosmith "(Braden's got a gun). "

The guy can throw 96 MPH. He's got a cannon.

Hasn't been as bad recently but sure has felt like a looong time since we had an OF that scared team run games (eaton in 16?)

I don't think Nishida is any great shakes with the cannon, but teams noticeably stopped testing his arm after that Minnesota series.

Which is a bit sad, haha. Both of those throws were one hoppers from shallow RF. I still don’t think he has a strong arm but he is apparently accurate with his aim.

Ready to see him play daily
