Trade Ideas/Rumors/Proposals Thread

The Sox have several Christian players on their team now, including Davis Martin. I don't think they'd have a problem adding Roupp. I just don't think he's that good. If you give up assets, you've got to imagine the guy you get back starting one of the first two games of a playoff series. Is Roupp really that guy?

Trevor Bauer is an awful clubhouse fit even if you believe him innocent of any criminal wrongdoing. I also don’t understand why anyone would think a 35 year old pitching in the Nippon League or where

They wouldn't get the comp pick. You have to be on the same team in the majors for the full season prior to free agency.

So we trade Bonemer to  rent Skubal for 2 months; still a long shot to win WS or pennant.  Then say Colson gets hurt next season and Peters turns into a fluke.  Where are we?
When the Sox can draft and develop like the Dodgers, then we can make those sorts of trades (we’re better at than we were, but nowhere near Dodger level; Sox are average). Need a steady stream of young players in order to win.  Trade them away without developing new ones = Sox 2010-2025.

Williams and moreso Hahn used most of our best prospects for 2nd and 3rd tier talent that performed like 3rd  and 4th tier talent. The Sox had so few good prospects back then that the cost was immense.

If the Sox can’t develop talent then bonemer is unlikely to be valuable and they should trade him for major league star like Skubal.

But you’d also have Roch or Emerson or Lombard in the pipeline just after.

If the Sox still can’t develop talent, it doesn’t really matter if they trade away Bonemer, it will all be fleeting anyway. At least you’ll get a few good months.

No doubt the Sox have to develop talent, I give them kudos for developing a first-place team. Hagen Smith & Noah Schultz could be the pitching that elevate the Sox to serious contenders. I want to see how Noah pitches coming of the IL. Hagen Smith has me worried, I can't help but think of Carson Fulmer. If they can get those two guys going it is a game changer for the franchise.

What about Braxton Ashcraft in Pittsburgh? I was looking through rosters and he caught my eye. He’s a little older, but he’s performing well and has a ton of team control. The Pirates also have a lot of pitching so maybe they’d move him. I’m guessing that would take Bonemer as well though.

It’s fun to talk about, but how many top prospect for top prospect 1 for 1 deals where both guys have no service time have ever happened?

A fun one was Zac Gallen for Jazz Chisholm

What about targeting Sonny Gray and Aroldis Chapman in a package deal? Maybe Carlson and a few other prospects for them? I think we definitely need a better closer than Dominguez. He's way too shaky and inconsistent for my liking.

Chapman should be at the top of their list

I’d rather target a late inning RH reliever and move Taylor to the closer role.

That is a fun one

I would think Senzatela is a perfect trade target as well.

In my opinion this is not the year to trade high end prospects for older short term veterans. This is absolutely a wait and see year for me. If we can get some vets for AAA fodder, then by all means - but I wouldn't be looking at dealing from our top 10 (or so) prospects.

Agreed

It would be crazy to trade Bonemer for Sloan in my opinion. They're basically similarly ranked prospects but pitchers have much wider error bars. The hitting prospect has a more reliable outcome, and Bonemer is the man.
