Interesting wrinkle in the Sonny Gray sweepstakes. He has a full No Trade clause but has expressed an openness to potentially forgoe it. Location is key to him apparently and that could give certain clubs an advantage. He’s based in Nashville, which is a very short flight from Chicago. Outside of the Braves, we may have a geographic edge over most other competitors. And when you combine his NTC and his financial obligations, his market & cost might be much smaller than one thinks. He’s also ineligible for a qualifying offer, so the Red Sox will be motivated to move him.

He may not be the sexiest option, but if the price is right, he could be the ideal bridge to a more impactful free agent SP next offseason. Getz needs to make this happen!

Ryan McGuffey says that increase in attendance means its going straight to payroll so take it for what its worth . He said it on the ReKap podcast after the 22-1 win so unless you want to hear Guff rave about that win , forward the video to 6:20 way near the end to hear him say that. I've seen other sources that say revenue is way up but the question has always been that as a lameduck owner will JR actually spend it on payroll. Sorry I can't provide other links about revenvues being up. So if you have any tweets, podcasts, articles etc. , I think it's relevant to trade talks.

I think I suggested that around a week ago. I also suggested that the Sox would get Kenley Jansen but he's as bad as Seranthony with 9 saves and 4 blown saves . He's got an OK WHIP 1.385 so that means he just gets hit around with a 4.38 ERA.

Keep your eye on Jacob Latz of the Rangers. He's 30 years old and not Arb Eligible until next year. FA in 2031. He's also from Lemont so Sox may already have eyes on him. 16 saves 2 BS, 1.85 ERA , .067 WHIP.

Rangers are a game below .500 and 3rd in the Wild Card race so they have to start losing for Latz to possibly be available. This is his 1st year as a closer.

Our old buddy Yoendrys Gomez has 7 saves and 0 blown saves for MN. 1.263 WHIP, 3.55 ERA Still just 26 . Not Arb Eligible till 2029. Don't know about his options.

Whitlock is a FA next year . 0 saves. 26.2 IP , 30 K , 1.050 WHIP. Really has come into his own the last 3 years as a setup guy.

Jerry doesn’t have much time left. He’ll push the profit from better than expected attendance back into the team. I just hope the Red Sox want to dump Gray for cash savings instead of prospects.

We'll find out soon enough. The wild card of course is the labor situation and probable loss of significant income next year, if there is one.

I wonder if having Ishbia pay off all of the Sox's debt means that having revenue pumped straight back onto the field is the driving force here.

He also just sold a chunk of the Bulls.

Rentals mean additional salary for this year and with the lockout coming JR may say "no, period" to any salary increases for this season because of the ramifications the lockout will have on next year and his operating income.

I'd hope he'd allow something if the Sox are still in it but this is JR remember.

I still don’t understand your theoretical here. He already agreed to an opening day payroll based on a certain expected revenue for the season. He came to a specific number knowing a lockout next year was very likely. Nothing has really changed on that front. As such, the additional revenue from attendance being up vs. plan is house money at this point. If had more concerns about next year’s financial situation, he’d have gone even lower with his OD payroll.

Yeah, why would this year's salary matter much for next year? Doesn't make sense to me. Especially when we're talking about one year rentals.

Because money spent this year coupled with who knows how much lost revenue next year is an issue, possibly for JR.

And when he set the payroll number for this year over last winter, it was rumored that a lockout was a possibility, now it's almost a certainty, That could, notice I said could, change his thinking.

Remember with JR the three rules are: money, money and money.

I hope the Sox do something but my guess is, it won't be a game changer.

Owners knew what they wanted to do for years. They stowed away money to get through a long lockout.

As much as I’d like to go for it this year and solidify the starting rotation for the next two years… another side of me wants to stay the course completely and see Caleb become a fucking monster for us.

The thought of 3 playoff runs with Webb is very intriguing. That said, he’s one of the very few guys I’d be willing to trade Bonemer for.

We have no excuse not to buy a top-end SP in free agency this offseason. As such, I’d rather keep Bonemer and go with a cheaper SP at the deadline. I truly believe we should not be doing “all-in” trades in year 1 of our competitive window.

The problem is that I don’t think there are any top end SP in this upcoming class besides Skubal. Freddy Peralta is probably the second best option after Skubal and I don’t consider him a true #1.

A strike/lockout wouldn't be the first time (94) the White Sox pennant hopes were upset.

Personally, I would not trade Fauske. If he could be Grady Sizemore (a guy who was in fact traded as a prospect), you're going to regret it for a decade. Boughton, sure. Any and all of the older college guys including pitchers, absolutely. But you start trading your overslot guys like Fauske and Bonemer, you are eating the seed corn.

Trading Fauske is not it. He's ascending in an area of need. I like him more than Carlson long-term. Might be prospect hugging, but I'd rather not trade Bonemer/Fauske/Carlson yet. We are a bit ahead of schedule on contention and I think you primarily focus on rentals/eating money at this point.
