This is why I wish lackey in cf was a viable option. The scenario you describe still doesn’t account for our 1.1 guy and it’s already amazing.

This is also true and it highlights that Peters could actually end up being our best emergence this year. Wow.

Wonder if having Teel and Lackey split catching duties with Lackey going to DH / right field and Braden moving to center and Teel DHing when Vahn is catching…

Could this keep them both fresh, protect their health, and be something the team values?

I really think Peters is the heart of this team much like I think Rowand was when he patrolled CF.

Or he just gets better at it. He moved pretty fast from draft pick to MLB then switched positions. 2 years ago he was at Coastal Carolina . 3 years ago he was at a Division 2 Community College. That's a huge leap. Patience Padawan.

I really don't want to include Bonemer in any trades. The comparison I've seen most of Gunnar Henderson. Obviously we don't expect him to stay at SS though. LF/2B/3B are options for him. Below are their stats in A+ (since Caleb just got done there). I know this is simplistic comparison lacking some more important details/context. And obviously Gunnar became way better than expected, but Caleb was clearly the better offensive player in A+. I think he's got the chance to be an offensive monster in the MLB. Middle infielder with 40 HR potential. That's tough to part with.

Braden Montgomery doesn't have the initial burst/range to play CF.

He's fine in RF, although his arm accuracy has just been a tad bit disappointing so far in the early stages.

Those are the questions I think arise with him.

He's owed a decent amount of money still (around $30 million until 2028). He was also terrible the past 2 years and his peripherals this year are way worse than his ERA (FIP of 4). I wouldn't pay anything of note for him unless the Diamondbacks are picking up money.

Getting Eduardo Rodriguez via the salary dump route and a mid-level prospect would be fine with me. He is nothing special, but he will give you innings and is lefthanded.

Just need the Sox version of Martin Perez or Houser. Someone more reliable/predictable that will protect that Bullpen from being overexposed/over worked down the stretch.

Especially Newcomb Hudson and Taylor.

Scary ? Nothing about it is scary. Are you expecting to get to the World Series this year ? You barely acknowledged they might be better than sucky this year. Now you're afraid of using rookie pitchers who need to show they can compete and stay on the mound ? Hate to break it to you but there's are going to be a few more after him.

As I see, it, this is the Sox SP depth, all with varying levels of availability (injuries/rehabbing). I feel like there is backlog that we could easily trade from without impacting our long term competitiveness. Not a ton of value outside our fandom, but you could at least get a solid rental (Ray/Soroka/Gray/Peralta) with any name below Shultz.

Shane Smith, even as a reliever throwing 97-100, has to have more trade value than Adams due to his overall mlb success/experience last year.

McDougal would also be more highly valued outside the organization.

McDougal has made three straight relief appearances in the minors. Unlike with Shane Smith, they aren’t trying to stretch him out again. This suggests a role in the Sox’s bullpen is very likely in the near future and @Y2Jimmy0 has suggested he’s heard the same. This kid could be our Bobby Jenks and quickly ascend to the closer role. If he does, you could be looking at this bullpen:

• CL: McDougal

• SU: Taylor

• SU: Hudson

• MR Newcomb*

• MR: Hicks

• MR: Murphy*

• MR: Dominguez

• LR: Richards

That could be a really good bullpen. Yes, Dominguez has sucked so far but I still believe that we can we right him enough to be our 7th best guy worst case scenario. Richards would be your weakest guy stuff wise, but has been super valuable & productive in his mop up duty role. Hopefully someone eventually pushes for that spot or we add for a SP and the domino effects knock Richards out ahead of the playoffs. Until then, he serves an important role this team.
