True, but he’s a good backup catcher with two more years of control. The Mets have no incentive to just give him up for nothing and if there is interest from more than one team, they can hold out for the highest bidder. Afterall, we all thought we had the catcher position locked in with four options going into the season. Meanwhile, the Sox are now trying to obtain the Mets backup catcher.

Know trading a player on the injured list is pretty rare but how about seeing if the A's would give up Langeliers to stash him for next season? A's probably want to get him back going to increase trade value but who knows maybe the A's don't want to pay him ARB.

Finding two rental SPs who are better than Anthony Kay but not as good as Sean Burke should not cost much prospect capital, especially if the Sox are taking on the remainder of their contracts.

That is the play, in my opinion.

Robbie Ray should be one of them: $25M salary this year, soon to be free agent, Giants are selling.

Saw a decent mock that had Castillo coming to the White Sox for Austin Hays (Mariners in need of RHH bench bat), Ely Brown and one other (I think number 20 prospect). Just don't really love the Castillo contract. But if there was a similar pitcher on a team that has pitching depth to deal from with another MLB need (like Hays could fill), that would make sense.

If you want to go big and get a Skubal then I get it. If you go for Miller, I get it (for the control) - not my primary move, but you get an elite guy in his spot for a few years. Giving up a top 10 + package for someone like Detmers, just feels odd - get an equal player via rental and then look longer term in the off-season where hopefully ownership can lean a bit into the payroll flexibility they have (while maintaining a better farm system to support the big league club via future trades or developing guys onto the big league squad).

Count me out on Detmers unless package is around Sandlin / Mason Adams (I'd be totally good with that - but can't imagine the Angels are).

One player I haven’t seen mentioned as a trade chip is Shane Smith. I wonder how the Sox view him and how other teams view him.

I think it’s more that he’s a great talent, but a mediocre performer. And the potential is why he’s enticing to many.

I kinda liked him as a possible buy low guy in the offseason since he was moved to the pen last year (didn't make a single MLB start in 2025). Oh well.

100% agree. The problem is the peripherals are good and the price will likely reflect that, so he won’t come cheap. Still think he makes a ton of sense.

I also don’t get why people are prospect hugging so much. Bonemer should be untouchable and there are a few others we should avoid trading him if possible, but you also have to give to get.

If I were Getz, I’d plan on adding two quality SPs between now and the end of next offseason. One of those guys should come from free agency, but realistically the other will come from trade. Don’t know why we can’t add that player now and improve our chances this season as well.

Bonemer is actually the better trade piece to move because he’s actually built apparent value to his talent level. It’s guys like Carleson are dumb to trade because you’re selling low. This is stock market 101

Are teams looking to add considering the fact that the 2027 season could be impacted (possibly heavily) by a lockout/strike? Would the Sox be more hesitant to add a player with control through 27?
