Jacob Gonzalez Pulled Mid Inning in AAA

This topic is getting intertwined with the game thread so I wanted to make a separate thread to discuss it.

@Y2Jimmy0 - What you hearing on this front? Future Sox has a guy in Charlotte right? Did he see any hugging in the dugout.

Anyone hurt that he would be replacing at MLB level?

Everyone that he would replace batted last inning

No

Not unless someone got hurt on the bench.

I believe comp picks have to be traded by 10am CST tomorrow, so we’ll know soon enough here.

I'm 20 mins from CLT airport, want me to head over real quick?

Yes please

July 10: What to know about trading of draft picks

One more thing worth noting before the draft gets started is the potential for trading compensation picks. I referenced in the final mock draft that the Pirates' Comp A pick (34th overall) has been discussed as available via trade for a solid big league reliever for almost a month. I've heard six to eight teams mentioned as taking earnest runs at this pick via trade; almost every time it comes up in conversation, a source mentions that a new team made an offer. I've also heard late buzz of a Comp B pick (Picks 67 to 74) being available but haven't confirmed that talks are occurring.

I've confirmed with the league that these trades would have to be completed by two hours before the Saturday afternoon kickoff of the draft.

Dont know if referring to this

If the Sox trade Jacob Gonzalez for a comp pick, that's a bad trade. How isn't it? They took him 20+ picks before, spent time and money developing him, he turns a corner and becomes a prospect of meaning and you trade him to... do it all over again?

I think most agree. Unless they don’t think he’s a longterm fit anywhere. But I figured he at least played himself up enough this year to be a trade chip in a package for a starter.

Would be strange for sure.

even if they don't think he would have a roster spot on this team, you gotta get more than a comp pick for a former 1st round pick who seems to be figuring it out

that would be a horrible trade

It would be a horrible trade…it would have to be part of a much larger trade

Yeah I meant to add that there’s likely more to it than a straight 1-1 swap.

I said the exactly same thing earlier this year. What are the chances a comp pick becomes as good as Jacob is now/could be? 10%? It seems so damn stupid.

If its a comp pick trade, I wouldn't be surprised if its a 3 team trade or there is something additional coming back to the Sox from Pirates.

Yea. I've been combing the Pirates system a bit. Wonder if Levi Sterling could be a part of it.

I think Getz would move Gonzalez straight up for pick 34. He was not a Getz pick.

You don’t undersell on an asset because he wasn’t your pick.

Gonzo earmarked for bench/backup thru next year. I understand the trade, if it is a trade.

Could be....Gonzalez was called up only due to the Mune injury despite tearing it up at AAA. Getz might not believe in Jacob and wants to just get something for him. I don't agree if that's the thinking.
