Fedde was solid in the rotation.

He was for a bit but honestly I'm done with the Fedde experience

I don't think he should have been made a reliever. They said they didn't want to return him as a starter because he wouldn't be stretched out and ready for MLB until mid-August. Well, guess when he debuted...

Sure, he hasn't looked great recently, but he was very impressive as a starter in AAA and I wouldn't be surprised if his command would've been better had he been stretched out rather than pitching for the first time in 10+ days

I admittedly don't know enough about him, does he have a 3rd pitch? From what I can see online he barely throws a curve and change and is mostly fastball-slider.

Urquidy had TJ in June of 2024, let's see what he has in the tank.

Urquidy about to have his CC Sabathia run

He's also got a pretty solid history of being bad. I think this is more likely regression to the mean. He's also not alone.

How did they bungle McDougal? All the games have been close since he was called up. If you’re saying it’s how he showed bad command, I think we all knew it was possible/likely with him and Hagen.

Can’t go as long as they did without using him. And even yesterday, they should have used him as opener for Martin.

Exactly, as some of us thought would be the case given Davis' struggles in the early innings. In hindsight, given how terrible Davis has been, the only other option would have been to put him on the 10 day. Not sure what they will do with that guy now. What a time for him to blow up. No way he is on the White Sox next season. Getz won't forget this.

I would expect Thorpe, who will also be rested, would be ahead of Shane in the pecking order given how brutal Shane has been besides his last AAA outing. But of course, there's no guarantee that Thorpe will be good enough so we could end up seeing Shane anyway. Other than a shaky most recent appearance, Cannon has been pitching well in AAA for a little while. I'd probably prefer to see Noah and Sandlin over either Cannon and Shane, though.

I don’t buy it

To re-state the obvious - the lack of starting pitching likely going to prevent this team from making the post-season.

Unfortunately my feelings right now are that I'd have to agree with you.

with everyone on innings limits, I would love to know how Getz figured that we didn't need more SP

The Sox need to get the big 3, Mune, Vargas, and Colson to get back to their earlier form and put more runs on the board. The 4 & 5 starters are going to have to at least give 5 innings and the pen come up strong down the stretch. I am not predicting WS but they have stayed in first so far with both Noah and Martin being complete disasters.

A lot of people here were saying the Sox needed two starters, Getz thought otherwise. Time will tell if that decision proves to be a mistake. Personally I think it will be.

too high a price they probably couldn't afford

this is not a going deep into the playoffs team, sure a playoff appearance is nice but it will be short term

this a team full of rookies and they can't compete with the veteran type teams

this success was not suppose to happen

many teams relying on the pen too much - on most baseball teams those guys become more hittable

In no way am I saying WS, just want to point out the 2015 Royals have a WS trophy solely because they rode their pen all the way.

the biggest anomaly in baseball, therefore it works for everyone

what the Royals do would not want to be a pattern to follow. Sox already have habitual losing down

I don't think it's realistic to expect the Sox to have traded for three starting pitchers at the deadline. Even with Castillo swapping in for Fedde, they still had Schultz and now Martin as weak links. Two additional starters (maybe even one) would've crushed their salary and/or prospect pools beyond what they were willing to do, and (to me) what they should be willing to do. They're going to have to rely on some bullpen games and Thorpe/Shane Smith to fill in the last two starters.

Will that be enough to hang onto the division and win some postseason games? Maybe, maybe not. The offseason should be a much better time to see what's out there in FA and trade possibilities to reinforce their starters. I get there's some worry about the season even happening in 2027, but it's hard for me to say the Sox should throw their plans out of the water and gut their system. Hell, people are mad about the Castillo trade costing the 15th ranked prospect in a middling system. I can't imagine what people would say if the Sox also had to beat the Robbie Ray and Freddy Peralta deals, or traded Bonemer or Carlson+ (or maybe even both) for Detmers.
