Saw a video today on YouTube about bridge relievers. Basically, they're guys like Newcomb who you rely on to get you more than 3 outs late in games. Taylor and Newcomb are on the list of relievers most used for bridge outings, where they go multiple innings in a game, but don't close the game out.

It's a method used by the Padres, Brewers, and Sox, teams that don't necessarily have innings eaters in the rotation. It's worked well for us so far, but you have to wonder the toll it takes on guys' arms. Those other teams also don't use their closer as a bridge reliever like the Sox do. Brewers have Megill and Uribe. Padres obviously have Mason Miller.

He’s done a fantastic job with this club. He has total buy in from the team. That alone is incredibly valuable. They play hard all game, every game, win or lose. Another massive win. He also keeps all of his guys engaged. I know the platooning can be a lot but it does help guys to stay in some rhythm. It’s incredibly easy to manage a game from your couch when you have no idea what you’re limited to. Last night people in here were screaming for Taylor even though it was said many times he was unavailable. People forget this team is a bunch of kids and cast aways. The fact they are where they are has some to do with Will and his staff.
