8/18 Gamethread: Crosstown Classic Game 5, 7:05 CT. Hudson vs. Gausman

Featured Replies

You guys know the umpires are in control of delaying the game after it starts, right?

It sucks but it isn’t the cubs doing it, and not burning Taylor for tomorrow could be a positive.

They aren't calling the game in thay scenario. This is purely to get Taylor out.

Why those cocksuckers

Has a pro hitting coach told me they don’t like how he sets up. Too much movement prior to point of contact. You could really see it his first two at bats.

Ultimately I'm not too worried because I think the present version is basically a fine player and I don't see it as especially likely he gets worse (other than, of course, everybody can get worse). About league average ISO, about league average production overall, defense is good and could be great if he cleans up some of the aspects you would think are the easy ones. At the plate, I appreciate seeing some adaptability. Seems to hunker down in key situations and try not to get beat by the pitcher's best pitch even if it's what he's weak against. And every now and then he gets off a nice ambush swing like his last PA that makes me think he knows that he needs to take some A-swings and catch something out front.

Umps were also in control of the garbage calls that screwed the game for the Sox yesterday.

This is the most bush league horse s%*# I’ve seen in years. Obvious to anyone with half a brain what they’re doing.

If I’m Will - I play under protest and have whoever comes in to resume the game bean the first dude who is up once there are two outs.

Then I grab Counsel by the fucking throat and get myself tossed for a week without pay.

p**** ass little punk bitches!

Nah, let’s stick with the conspiracy theory cuz it’s the Cubs. 🤣

The problem is it's technically the umps calling the shots and the umps aren't going to eagerly agree that they were hoodwinked by the groundskeeper

Just like saving Taylor for tonight was supposed to help too.

Should have at least played until there was rain or lightning at this point. Otherwise you might as well have moved up the game an hour

Is an hour delay enough time to get over to the Rate for a few rounds of Trajekt vs. the Cubs pen guys?

You know that the umpires get reports from the CUBS grounds crew captain, who could EASILY tell the umpires that rain is minutes away - thus forcing them to call for a delay, right?

It does suck. It most likely IS THE CUBS doing it…

And f*** THEM!

Groundskeeper advises the umpires. This is totally on the Cubs

Assume we see Webb in the 9th with bottom of the order

Also he's above replacement level right now with 0.7 bWAR and 0.9 fWAR which could have been even more had he played since opening day. More power would really just be a bonus to what seems like a solid rookie campaign.

The grounds crew is responsible for reporting weather and advising the umpires.

it’s not fucking raining…I’m not sure how much more proof you need this was shenanigans.

I don’t seriously think Will should play under protest or choke out Counsel.

Comedy used to illustrate a point.

Is it raining yet? At this point could have finished the game.

I blame the home plate ump. It's payback for Romo ABS challenging 5 times and getting 4 right !

It rained within 5 minutes of them putting the tarp on the field.

People are being ridiculous.

Doesn't look like it according to the radar. Maybe another 5-10 minutes. Storm is not moving super fast.

According to radar, the very very front of the precipitation is about to hit Lincoln Park.

I guess the radar is wrong.

Zach zaidman tweeted a picture of it raining at wrigley at 9:55 and they put the tarp on the field at 9:49.
