  • Sox are amazing this year. Man it's hard to believe the sadness of the tank years has faded away. Sox have so much talent it's incredible led by my grinder faves: Antonacci, Meidroth and Banana Ball M

Guardians have to face a Jays team that swept the Mariners.

Offense is all or nothing at times

Sox are the feast or famine offense.

Is this where I say he’s the most replaceable of the “core” guys going forward.

Pretty remarkable that Vargas and Meidroth are the best (and only) extension candidates at this point.

Meidroth, who was predicted to be the war leader preseason, and yet has been one of the players deemed most replaceable in the starting lineup at various points of the season.

Vargas is the one they should be focusing on.

As regards Mune, this is by any metric his worst month but also his first negative-luck month so (IMO) not as big of a dropoff in play as it may appear. Of course he had a spell in August when he got real hot and now he's in a deep trough so it's not like the month of August has been a single thing for him. His K rate is up this month but his whiff rate is the same as it has been all along. Most of the components I'd look at are basically the same for him — bat speed, swing length, angle of the bat both up/down and sideways, etc. So for now I'm just looking at it as probably normal variation in his level of play. FWIW, wOBA vs. xwOBA by month for him below (top is the Mar/April, then May, then June, then July at bottom).

They scored 28 runs in the 3 games prior to yesterday. A decent amount of that was some really good BABIP luck. Stuff like that averages out over time.

And 3 runs sofar going into 2 games. Problem is when you have 3 or 5 game playoffs you can't let up. Especially against much better pitching and colder month

Awesome! Probably getting shutout so it doesn't matter.

I'd expect such a good fielder like Doyle to make that play. He completely misread that.

I've been guilty of this. He's been great thought. I use to prefer keeping Sam over him at 2nd, but I'm taking Meidroth because of his defense at this point. I wouldn't hate the Sox dangling Antonacci as trade bait sometime in the future.

at least we gained a game this weekend. Houston series worries me, I hate playing there

Murakami earning every bit of that 34 mil

Sox offense:

Scoring 0-2 runs: 38 times - 7th fewest in MLB

Scoring 5+ runs: 67 times - 3rd most in MLB

Scoring 7+ runs: 32 times - 12th most in MLB

That doesn't seem like a feast or famine offense.

See 2000-2012 offense...never the more ideal and consistent 3-5 runs per game....except 2003 second half/2005/first half 06.

2000's first half feels like such an unusual season now, looking back.

Also, a lot of similarities with this year's team to the 1990 breakthrough...although this year's team isn't close to those two (1990/2000) in terms of overall talent.

Cleveland has a tough series themselves fortunately.

So 3-4 and 6 are the results that stick out?

3-4 is going to be the most common result for the majority of teams in mlb.

Talk about a punt game. How do you let Doyle bat there if you’re even trying?

I blame @hi8is for posting Beavis and Butthead before the game started. Everyone knows they are used when we never score

Doyle has replaced Drew Romo as our automatic out.

I feel like Peters has earned a higher spot in the lineup for the time being. Dude was on a ridiculous tear and has continued hitting. Meanwhile Ant and Mune have been struggling. Sam with a .578 OPS the last 14 days, .652 OPS the last 28 days. Peters with a ridiculous 1.122 OPS (.430 OBP) the last 28 days. Why not have him leadoff instead of Ant?

What do you mean? He’s Getz’s big bat acquisition…

Looks like a loss but 99% of us would have been happy taking 2 up in the land of sky blue waters and picking up a game in the standings. The bats have to come alive in Houston where at this point I’ll be happy with a split and a 4-3 road trip.

I just wish the deadline never happened.

Great job by Urquidy
