It looks like Jordan Sprinkle (4, 2022) was the only African-American player taken in the top 10 rounds during Shirley's tenure as head of amateur scouting.

Matt Thompson (2019 #2 - Hostetler) is probably the highest draft choice of an African American since Tim A. I realize that the Latin American market is separate, but that has been a Sox clown show for far too long. It's hard to believe that race would have anything to do with player acquisition...although baseball evaluation is the least reliable anyway.
But from a reputation standpoint, that this has apparently been going on this long is the worst thing.

Shirley's been here through 7 drafts...time for a change anyway.

Given the concerns about abuse, I must note the word "opine" has been suffering serious abuse in this thread while its homophone "pine" suffers from neglect.

The thought about the Whiteness of the Sox draft picks crossed my mind but I think it will be hard to look at the Sox draftees and get too terribly much out of it. About 80% of all players drafted in the top 5 rounds (by all teams) in recent years are non-Hispanic Whites, per this study: https://sabr.org/journal/article/examining-dusty-bakers-hope-is-help-on-the-way/

Sox took an obviously Hispanic player in the first round just a few years ago in the form of Jacob Gonzalez. Less obvious (from the name) is Billy Carlson, whose mother is Mexican. I believe Roch Cholowsky's mother is Indian-American. So IDK, it's possible he has some particular biases that affected his player evaluation, but in today's MLB you're going to see a lot of White guys among any team's draftees. It's fair to raise the question given the other things he's accused of. But there are other people involved in the draft decisions too.

There are a lot of people with questionable behavior around. That is not a particular trait of only the Sox organization .That is something that never changes. There are probably dozens of people in front offices, coaches and players with hostile attitudes towards women and mentally abusive to other because being the "BOSS" allows you to discipline and try to get better performance in many different ways. Very little of it is apparent enough to get someone fired. Shirley has probably acted that way his whole life and it's usually overlooked . I'm glad their Human Resources Dept. was able to take the problem seriously and move it up the chain of command where action could be taken.

I could look at this website and recount plenty of sexual "jokes" about women in general. Boys will be boys stuff but being tolerant of it and watching it spread because it's ok when no when says anything about it is also wrong.

I have to say I absolutely despise the whole "let this guy resign" bullshit that companies do. He should be fired for this embarrassing deplorable behavior.
