It's one of those cases of selective memory with Peavy.

 

A lot of our gripes were about his record against the Tigers, particularly the 6-0 blown game, some of his starts down the stretch where he was "so-so" or okay instead of pitching like an ace.

 

Of course, the counter-argument is that he's no longer the 2007 version, has diminished stuff, has had to adapt and learn to be a pitcher rather than just a thrower...THAT previous Cy Young glimmering version will never return again, any more (and I see some are still holding out hope that he'll bounce back into the mid 90's with his FB again).

 

Statistically, there's no arguing with his stats, as an overall body of work, from 2012. And there's no arguing that if he put up those same numbers the next two years, the White Sox would have made a very sound investment.

 

And then there will always be those who appreciate his "manning up" and coming back from a first of its kind surgery as quickly as he did, instead of packing it in and collecting a paycheck.

 

The whole team just ran out of gas (Sale, Peavy, Quintana, the rookies), we had the injuries to deal with constantly throughout the 2nd half...most of us were not as angry as Greg about the "collapse" as it was pretty predictable to those who follow both the Tigers and Sox closely. (That said, I believed we would actually take it after winning the final Tigers game and then again when Dunn hit the homer to win another one in the following days).

I want Dunn gone as much as anybody but I think we'd have to throw in Q, Santiago, Viciedo and maybe Flowers. That's how untradeable that sack of whacklord is IMO.

Nope. Another thing the Sox need to stop doing is trading away young affordable pitching. I keep Q and Santiago.

Cause I think the Q we saw at the end of the season was more the Q we'd get next year. Yes, he was gassed at the end of the year, but no way is he the pitcher we saw from the beginning of the season. He's more in the middle but closer to the guy struggling to get out of the 5th than shutting down the Rangers through 8....

 

If the Sox are going to have 3 in house lefties in the rotation next year I'd prefer Sale, Danks, Santiago.

I've been on the fence about this. There is a part of me that agrees with you and thinks that he will be the weak link in the rotation next year. But then the other part of me sees that he's making league minimum and has minor league options so they need to take a chance to see if he is actually that good.

The Dunn hate is and always will be mind boggling to me. The White Sox should trade Dunn and then what? They would be looking for another LH power bat to replace him with. Some of the people that post on this board don't deserve to see a winning team. Dunn's .OBP was down last year and he will always strike out a ton. But 40 + HR's annually and over 100 walks is something that is not given enough credit on this board and in most places. People need to get over the fact that their eyes tell them that a strikeout is the worst thing in the world. All the bad players that have come through town and people hate the guy that will end his career near 600 homers.

I think it's the salary. People think that anybody making over $10M a year has to be perfect to justify that salary. You offer fans a choice between a player who makes $15M but plays like a $12M player and a player who makes $1.5M but plays like a $1.50001M player and they will choose the second player because they think they're getting more value. Never mind that you just lost $10.5M worth of actual production at the position, at least they have a guy who isn't overpaid. Then you end up with Mark Kotsay at DH and the same people whine that the owner is cheap and won't spend any money on free agents.

I don't personally hate Dunn and don't sense hatred per se on here. He contributed to a lot of wins last year, both halves. I'm thinking he stunk down the stretch as did most of our players/pitchers. I just don't like his style. I never understood why these big brutes never try to hit to all fields. That shift victimized him a lot. And personally his strikeouts are annoying. I don't hate him and applaud him for his game winning type hits last year but I wish he'd go far away.
