LOL

He is going to be one of the top hitters in the game this year. There is no question about it in my mind.

Eh, I don't know. I think there is no doubt he'll hit a ton of bombs. But I could see him being more Mark Trumbo and less....Jose Abreu. Ok, maybe better than Trumbo's average, but I think he probably hits somewhere in the .260s, maybe .270s with 35 HR and 150+ Ks. Trumbo circa 2012 I guess. I don't see him being a 5+ WAR guy, at least not in his rookie year. We shall see I guess, but obviously he's still a huge threat to be the best rookie in baseball this year.

For sure. I wish this wasn't true so the cubs' rebuild would still be 3-4 yrs out.

It still could be.

Like we talked about earlier in the thread, 3 full seasons of Mike Trout got the Angels one playoff appearance and zero playoff game wins.

A top 5 pitcher and top 5 hitter earned the 2014 Sox a grand total of 73 wins.

This isn't the NBA, where one player makes you a contender, but Bryant sure as hell is a nice building block though.

All correct.

I'd totally have dumped Baez last year for the best deal I could get for him after he destroyed AAA for a year IMO, hopefully to fill in a #2 starter.

Who hits more homers this year abreu or Bryant?

Betting money would be on Bryant, but you never know.....they're going to have to pitch to Jose this year, provided LaRoche and Avisail and Alexei/Conor (to a lesser extent) are forcing opposing to teams to pay for pitching around him, or at least trying to limit him to singles and doubles rather than homers.

I would imagine if this was a an actual bet Abreu would be the favorite. So I don't think your first line is right.

Barring injuries, Abreu will have at least 10-15 more games played, so yeah, that already makes him a likely favorite.

I'd have said Abreu based on the first half of last year but then Abreu's power dropped a bit and he hit every freaking ball thrown to him, just not out of the park.

I read something a few years ago which stated the clubhouse leader in spring training home runs wound up hitting very few in the regular season. Unless he gets hurt, it seems Bryant will break that. I think one sprimg Beltin Bill Melton hit 10 spring homers, and i think he wound up with 6 for the regular season.

That's really tough. Abreu would be the safer bet, because he's actually played a major league season, but I think Abreu may have hit his career high in HR last year. It think what we've seen this spring and in the 2nd half is more indicative of his future. Will still run in to about 30 HR a year, but I think he is more interested in hitting .300+ and getting on base.

I'd go with Bryant, honestly.

Reports saying Javy Baez heading north with the Cubbies. Very curious decision. I would have sent him to Iowa to get some semblance of an approach.

Baez going north, and Bryant not... Cub fans are going to burn down Wrigley Field.

Cubs fans should burn down Wrigley Field if Bryant doesn't start in Iowa.

You don't want that loophole? Great. What are the players willing to give up in negotiation in exchange for closing it?

Every Cubs fan I've talked to thinks he should be in Iowa. I don't generally associate with idiots though.
