The Cubs have Mark Melancon's number this year. What a joke.

Castro has been great the past month. No one wanted him at the trade deadline, but now the Cubs might be able to find a taker for him in the off-season.

Wheye do the cubs rank with a runner on 3rd less than 2 outs? Can't imagine very good with the way they K. And they do it twice in a row there. I feel like the lack of ability to manufacture could kill them.

Whew, great win for the Pirates!

Would be fantastic if giants lose tonight so no cubs fans get to see them clinch.

Yeah, bringing cheetahs to games is why they'll make the playoffs

Well, it couldn't make the White Sox any worse, could it?

I wish we could clinch, but the magic number against us is 2

Carlos Martinez left after two batters with shoulder tightness. Didn't look good based on his reaction.

That was crazy 2-3 years ago when the Pirates' fans pretty much destroyed Cueto.

Will there be a sequel?

Wasn't sure where else to post this, but Rich Hill has 3 straight 10 strikeout starts, including a CGSHO tonight. Yes, that Rich Hill.

Yes. Giants lose. Cubs clinch late friday with no one to see!

I picked him up in my fantasy league and his performance might win me the league. Who would have thought Rich Hill would pitch in the Majors again, let alone be really good at it?

Why would this be exciting to you? Seeing it or not, this has been a pretty awesome season to be a Cubs fan....

Just an incredible turnaround from where they were when theo/jed took over in '11 and where they currently stand.

Road team has won the last 5 games between the Cubs and Pirates. Maybe having homefield advantage isn't a good thing. :P

White is baseball the one sport where teams have huge champagne celebrations after every playoff series? When a WC team wins it all, they go crazy 5 times in a month. You don't see NBA or NHL teams popping bottles (in the locker room) after every single playoff series.

I'm pretty sure a lot of the WC teams haven't done the big celebrations in recent years, particularly the 2nd place ones.

Meh, it's their first playoff birth in 7 years.

I'm not calling out the Cubs, everybody does it, seeing them just made me think about it.

I understand the celebration after clinching a playoff berth, given how much of a 162 game grind the MLB season is. But why does it happen after every playoff series, sometimes just a week later?

Cries and walks away.

Now that they have clinched a spot. We can await the pageantry of the parade of goats dead or alive to Wrigley as morons attempt to break a make believe curse.

Mr. Sunday Night....has same number of homers hit as given up since his first Sox start.

It's like he's throwing a smaller baseball.
