Ive noticed the past few weeks if I wear my Sox hat that I occasionally get things yelled at or said to me like "Sox suck." I just ask them who the manager of the Cubs was before Maddon. You would be floored at how many of their regular fans dont know the answer to that.

Between that coverage angle, the BFIB Cards attitude, and my hatred for all things Cubbish, this series has the potential to be the most annoying thing that has ever happened in sports. I'll probably just avoid it.

How many times has there been young talented teams that looked like a shoo in to win a WS and never have done it. Everyone here was positive the last team Maddon managed was going to win one and yet after their 08 WS trip, they never got close again.

 

When the Sox won in 05, nobody and I mean nobody saw that coming before the season started.

 

Baseball is really weird that way.

Price made comments last year about how cool it would be to win with the Cubs. That was before Maddon signed with the Cubs. Personally, I think Cubs starting 3 next season will be Price, Arrieta, Lester.

Cueto suddenly not looking like such a sure thing unless he stays in the NL.

 

I'm going to predict Jordan Zimmermann. When he's on, they'd have another Arietta for 60-65% of the outlay for Price.

You still have to win, and it is not always the best team that does it. Atlanta was in the playoffs throughout the 90's with a pitching staff that had 3 HOF, and they won once.

 

At some point, players on the Cubs will get selfish, too. They're going to want to play defined positions and get maximum playing time. Right now, they're good with starting in left and moving to third (for example), but eventually they'll want to be full time somewhere because that's how players get paid.

My neighbor just told me he was happy the Cubs made it this far in his lifetime..... He's 70 years old.

Cubs fans, and most of the local media as well have NO idea there are actually other talented young teams in the playoffs with bright futures. No idea whatsoever.

And that won't be too hard because they can easily add another starter (Price, Cueto, Zimmermann, etc.) and let next season play out without being forced to make another move until midseason.

 

Eventually, Castro or Baez will have to be traded, and they will hope for a rebound from Soler as well, but they have desperation on the part of other teams on their side in the offseason, too, if they do choose to go into 2016 with more clarity as far as the future of the starting lineup (those three already mentioned, as well as Schwarber.)

 

Assuming Bryant stays at third, unless they trade Schwarber for a Chris Sale-ish haul.
