Unexpected.

Wow, ok...

Well then.

Why does the Rangers piece matter?

Does that make him a FA?

Woah.

Something else has to be afoot.

Gotta wonder if something else is cooking. To rely on Avila or anyone else in the organization right now for 110+ games isn't likely.

Well they were close to trading for a catcher earlier today which was supposed to be a smaller piece that could affect this type of transaction(tender/nontender).

Ew.

Sale is next.

So Avila is starting? Naw. Can't be with his injuries last season. Something else is cooking

First thing I thought...what does Sale think about all of this. Quite frankly, I think he'll be just fine after spring training.

I agree. Back on the Derek Norris train!

Assuming he doesn't sign a lesser contract and returns, Avi Garcia is now the longest tenured position player on the White Sox.

People on here look waaaaaay to into the whole Flowers is his personal catcher thing. Sale will be fine. Honestly, they'll probably bring in a right handed hitting, defensive first catcher for cheap to be his backup. Cheaper than what Flowers would make it should say.

I am so happy that Flowers is gone.

Quick question though, when you non tender someone, can you still resign him?

No, it's completely fair to wonder what Sale thinks of this move. He's the ace pitcher, and is highly complimentary of Flowers catching ability and pitch calling. He will be fine because it's Chris Sale, but I wouldn't doubt it if Sale was upset by this.

About freaking time he had no business starting last 2 years.

I believe he can't come back now until May 1...if that's still the rule...or if I'm not confusing it with something else.

Well, we had a proper catcher platoon for a week.

I've been waiting a while to use this for the day they got rid of him...thank goodness it's earlier than I expected

One name to keep an eye on as White Sox seek a catcher: Dioner Navarro. Sense among competitors is something could come together quickly.
