How bout getting semien back for a pitcher?

 

 

Usually when they are gone we don't bring them back. However, what pitcher are you thinking of? I also have to question Semien's glove after his 35 or so errors at SS last year

Maybe I'm just dumb for this comment but why would anyone be upset with this move if they give up a reasonable price...

 

When was the last decent 3B we had? Sure, he alone won't be the reason this team contends but I see no reason to be upset about this type of move w/ what is on the market as long as they did not give up too much.

I am in the minority (not sure why) it seems like that wants this deal to happen. I have felt Lawrie be a fit for this team before he got traded last year to the A's. Losing hope that it will actually happen now, considering it leaked overnight/early this morning and still nothing official

All of which might point to Washington being a good coach: encouraging, engaged and full of faith in his players. And Semien’s second-half improvement in the field has been remarkable. His fielding percentage is up almost 50 points, to .973 from .925. Since June 1, Semien ranks in the MLB top 10 in defensive runs saved at shortstop with 5. Though his UZR is still last in the league, it’s almost three runs in the black since the break. And using Baseball Info Solutions data over that same stretch, his ratio of good fielding plays to defensive misplays & errors has gone from .034 to 0.63 -- not great (the MLB average is around 1.0), but up into Ian Desmond territory and headed in the right direction.

 

Through the power of the possible, Semien has gone from awful to asset. In short, he's looking like a shortstop.

We'll see if that holds for next year, "Defensive stats from 1/2 a season" are obviously volatile, but there's possibly a lesson in "guy goes to another organization and he's had so unbelievably little coaching that it takes 3 months before the team throws up their hands and brings in a specialist to do what should have happened with him 3 years beforehand".

I wouldn't be too worried I'm sure we have a lot going on along with the A's I'm pretty sure the deal is already done and the sox are just waiting to announce it while they work a few other avenues.

I agree. There is really nowhere to go but up at 3B. As long as good prospects aren't used to get him, there's really no downside.

1) shows how much is involved in a manager aside from in game management, and why Washington had success

Eh...Sox could be talking about Frazier too and keeping options open. Just my two cents

I've been wondering if part of the reasons for the impasses and these leaks are a combo of the Sox wanting the Reds to know they are close on something, so if they want to move Frazier at whatever the Sox price is, do it now or we will move in another direction. I'm also presuming A's want it out their to potentially see if other clubs want to swoop in.

We have to trade Avi if we get Lawrie. They are very similiar players. Both strikeout as often as they get a hit and both are terrible fielders. Avi draws more walks but Lawrie may be a tad faster...........................ugggh

Great insight. Obviously it's not done if we haven't heard anything about it.

What a difference a year makes. I remember being really jazzed about all the Sox movement last year... And we all know what followed that winter. Hopefully the results this coming season surprise... The inactivity is making me tired.

Thome and Dunn were both really good power hitters here. Dunn had a historically s*** season but he also hit 41 homers 1 year with us

Maybe the Reds leaked the talk with the Indians to see if Hahn will increase his offer?
