Angels traded for Yunel Escobar to play third. Anyone think Freese is a realistic option at third now?

Escobar is coming off of a money season. All that said, I think if the Sox are going to add someone else, they should be adding someone that can get on base, play d, be a good all around hitter. I don't really see Freese as that guy. Of course if the contract was right, it wouldn't be awful and I'd be fully on board with Freese / Upton / Lawrie as an off-season.

Pitching isn't same since now you have a hole in rotation.

You can go ahead and double that price for Cespedes, and add a few years.

Cespedes is going to make a lot more money then that. And who is the 5th starter?

I would much rather go with Saladino over signing Desmond who has been trending downward for a few years.

Funny thing though is his defense has remained consistent(positive play actually). So that's a little interesting.

It has and I give him credit but his bat, suspected salary and comp pick makes me want to run away screaming like Anna Faris in scary movie.

Laugh if you want but we should sign Gordon and I bet KC would take Melky back in a minor deal. Sox can pay 1/3 or 1/2 of Melky's salary in KC. Sox need defense and Gordon's excellence there might rub off on the franchise. Gordon, Trayce and Cespedes or Eaton (if we can't trade Avi) would not be a bad outfield. If we really can get Holt or Frazier that also would be nice. In that scenario we should sign Lexi back as we'd have a contender (maybe).

My contender: Our current pitching staff minus Johnson (in the trade for Holt or Frazier).

1B - Abreu.

2B - Holt or Lawrie if we get Frazier.

SS - Lexi

3B - Lawrie (hopefully Frazier with Laurie at second).

LF - Gordon.

CF - Trayce.

RF - Eaton.

C - The two hacks we acquired.

DH - Cespedes/LaRoche plays DH once a week and 1B once a week.

Pitching - It's playoff worthy already even minus Johnson.

GO SOX!

You sure? There's been almost zero buzz around him. I know the OF market is waiting on Heyward but Cespedes would at least be getting some interest you would think.

The guy always seems to find himself in the postseason (except that time Beane dealt him for Lester) and guys around him in the lineup seem to play better with him around. He's a true middle of the order bat and I'm thinking he could be had for a lot less than Gordon and Heyward, neither of whom are the offensive player Cespedes is.

It is a long off-season man. He will get close to double the money you said

I can't imagine he gets less than $150M. And if he does, then it will be at at least a $25M AAV. So basically, 5/$125 is about the lowest I can see him getting in terms of years and money.
