Johnson looks terrible.

He better get that velocity up, and quickly. Arrieta sure had no problem getting his up to 2015 levels after throwing career high innings. Johnson should have done more to prepare himself, unless he's injured there's no excuse pitching like he is. If I was him I would have been working my ass off to force managements hand

Scouts weren't too impressed with Latos, either.

 

Johnson at 85-89 mph is merely batting practice fodder.

Let's face it, if you aren't in mid season form on March 12th, you are going to suck this season.

 

 

Didn't Quintana have an ERA around 15.00 a couple of springs ago? Didn't Courtney Hawkins look like the Sox best hitter the first couple weeks of last spring? People read way too much into the good and bad of early March baseball.

It's so early in ST that I happily take the good and hope the bad improves without looking too far into either. Johnson's velocity is worthy of raising an eyebrow over but again, it's early and his velocity could very easily come around as his arm stretches out during the next 2 + weeks. If Johnson is still throwing 85-89 during the last week of ST then I'll be concerned.

Yeah yeah Wilson Betemit, Ryan Sweeney, etc.

 

Just surprising Johnson isn't pitching with a bit more sense of urgency...or at least not prepared to hit the ground running in the most important spring training of his career. That's twice now he has gotten rocked. With Quintana and Latos, they had/have big league track records. If he was throwing at least in the lower 90's, there would be less cause for concern.

Given his mysterious loss of velocity two years ago, it absolutely should be a concern IMO

Yep, he sounds pretty good. Stony was doing more talking than ususal, and I imagine that's to help Bennetti get accustomed to his new job. It's nice to hear Stone's insight in place of Hawk blabbing on about things that I don't care about.

That shows me that the Cubs and Sox are both targeting their ad campaigns in your area but the Cubs budget for google Adwords is likely 7 times higher than the Sox.
