  2. Are you disputing we offered Wheeler a 5 year deal? How many years do you think our offer to Tanaka was?
  3. Or they draft/develop their own pitchers. See CLE TB MIL.
  4. He’s given out four year deals and has offered five year deals to pitchers. Again, he’s not going to give Skubal a 10 year deal, but there will be good SPs in our price range for sure.
  5. Exactly, he's made that philosophy abundantly clear over the years. He is unwilling to take those type risks because of the injury factor. And again he may be exactly right in his thinking. The problem though is the other teams don't feel that way so the Sox are behind the eight ball.
  6. Venable in post game said he gave zero thought to pinch hitting Grichuk for Mune with bases loaded. I think that may be fireable alone. While I feel he did a good job of getting a lot out of a young team and keeping them loose during the season, I have to wonder if he is the right guy to get us from point A to point D (WS champs).
  7. This is how White Sox market was perceived at mid 2018 by Bleacher Report has anything changed? 10. Chicago White Sox Though Chicago is a huge market, the White Sox are dominated therein. Even since the 2005 World Series title the Sox brought home, Chicago remains a Cubs town, and the Cubs will always gobble up most of the tourist money, merchandise money, ad revenue and prime media real estate in the city. That's one element of the problem here. Another is that U.S. Cellular Field is a bit of a dump, by modern ballpark standards. It has relatively little character. It sits in a poor South Side neighborhood, where the expected economic impact has never developed. The revenue exclusivity of the area helps in a way, but the removal from downtown Chicago is a disadvantage, too. The Sox are no poor cousin, but they're functionally a mid-market team, albeit the richest one imaginable.

  10. Couldn't Roch, Caled, Thorpe all be on same roster. Should move them to Chicago until MLB is back.
  11. Because he hates giving long term deals to pitchers
  12. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/50152183/mlb-playoffs-2026-ranking-final-four-team-alcs-nlcs-brewers-dodgers-rays-guardians are small ball teams are better in the playoffs? : r/baseball Hitting home runs is better in the playoffs. It's much harder to play small ball against elite pitching than it is against bad / mediocre...
  13. In Game 2, Gavin Williams became just the third pitcher in Indians/Guardians franchise history to strike out 11 in a playoff start, joining Bartolo Colon in 1999 and Charles Nagy in 1996. In Game 5, Williams one-upped himself, tying Charles Nagy's record with a dozen strikeouts across 5 ⅔ innings.
  14. What’s especially shitty about this loss is that you’d expect some kind of a memorable game after Ditka passed. And they just went out there and embarrassed themselves. The meatball in me is upset that all of the Chicago teams suddenly suck again.
  15. Chicago is a world class city. It's the fucking best. The mixture of nightlife/entertain options, food, public transportation, architecture, great neighborhoods, etc. it's tough to compete with New York, but Chicago is wayyy more affordable. Chicago is the best. Being on a big freshwater lake and having basically no natural disasters puts it in a good place going forward. I think this is a place you'll see a lot of people moving to in the future. Now, if we can figure out the pension situation without jacking up taxes even more... That's the big problem.
  16. Yes, I do think that. Won’t be Skubal, but I think most other guys will be on the table. Not sure why we are using moves made during clear rebuilding years as a proxy for how we will act during our competitive window.
  17. The league is too woke now @hi8is . Back in the day teams would have an enforcer, and that guy would have gone out there and beaten the crap out of Jose Ramirez to send a message. Now with how woke the league is ( @hi8is ), all the enforcers are gone and you don't see it anymore. It's a damn shame.
  18. Nope. Pull up the list of geriatric starters that are 34+ years old. 1 and 2 year deals only.
  19. Do you truly believe JR is going to start offering 4+ year deals for the likes of Michael King and Peralta? Because the two year bargain guys returning from overseas like Fedde and Kay have become the new standard at lower payroll numbers. What about a Japanese or Korean starter in FA?
  20. Also, I just want to say, while not right, I was in full support of beaning Jose Ramirez to send a message and hopefully get the guys fired up.
  21. Yes, let's not lose sight of who the real enemy is in all this......Justin Ishbia.
  22. Blame for this playoff flame out falls squarely on Mike Vasil. What the hell, man, are you a freaking wizard or not? DFA his ass back to Hogwarts.
  23. I vividly remember that too. I believe the quote that the player told Bernstein was "all p**** gets old".
  24. And Zack Collins was a 1-1 talent...
  25. Yankees heroes like Jeter Mantle Ruth are forever untouchable for actions or behaviors off the field while minority players in other markets face a harsher standard of conduct?
  26. I'm wearing my Barons cap today. Depending on if there is a lockout, I might just do a road trip to BIrmingham next season to get some "live" baseball in. Also might just do it anyways because it sounds like a fun town.
  27. Welcome to the offseason.
