  2. Surprised some are upset about this. You can have success in the minors walking 5 guys per 9 innings but that crap isn’t going to fly in the majors. Not sure what Getz’s obsession is with stocking catchers, but I doubt Peoples is any sort of loss. He’s a lottery ticket for a reliever that couldn’t lower his walk rate and was going to be gone soon either way.
  3. The thought when we win the lottery was roch was the guy because he could come up with this team within 1 year and be part of this window of prospects. Now we have an infield of mune, vargas, colson, chase and gonzo who are all good capable infielder. Plus Sam is really a 2b. So we don't have that need for a mlb tray guy who plays the IF. Roch and Emerson are pretty close in the board but grady had the higher upside and fire the timeline better for the organization. Where would roch play? OF? You got braden, peters and sam. Plus you have Carlson and bonemer in the next couple years in your IF. Go with Emerson. It makes more sense in the big picture.

  5. It is odd, but I'll trust the Sox judgment on moving on. Peoples had a glaring problem of walking too many batters. Perhaps he refused to make the changes necessary to get called up? I'm not even going to get upset about this - they still have a lot of talent arms down there just as deserving or working their way back from injury. Wikelman Gonzalez and a resurgent Jairo Iriarte are way more exciting options to me than Peoples ever was.
  6. KLaw on a WGN podcast said he’s reasonably confident the pick would be Emerson if draft was today.
  7. Why not? They've probably tried a dozen different ways to get him to throw strikes consistently, and he can't. They're limited on roster size, and the total number of players they can have in their system. Maybe the Rangers wanted him now, and they're going to need roster slots with guys like McDougal and Shane Smith starting their own AAA IL rehab assignments. Plus, you have the draft in a couple weeks, and promotions and cuts to make room for some of those guys. The Sox have been grabbing guys off of waivers and throwing them out on the mound. Nikhazy, Bido, Lucas Sims, Joe Rock, Trevor Richards. There has obviously been an opportunity for a guy like Peoples to pull it together and get some major league innings. He couldn't.
  8. Gonzalez had a good game against weak pitching. Don't get carried away with projecting him as a starting player quite yet. Once Murakami comes back (maybe in a few days) Gonzalez goes back to the Minors. IF Benintendi gets traded, then the LH DH spot would be open for Gonzo. And no Roch is not going to automatically replace Colson Montgomery, unless he can hit at a 40 HR / year clip with a wooden bat.
  9. When keeping it real goes wrong.
  10. I think you’ll be surprised then. He’s THE TOP available pitcher. The big guns across the league will be pitted against one another to try and not only add him but to also keep him from potential NLCS / ALCS / WS dog fights. He isn’t your usual rental scenario.
  11. I hope you’re right but doubt it as much as you 😆
  12. Hope after this draft we move somewhere near where the Twins land. Between the Rays and Brewers are.
  13. Hes a free agent in 3 months and would have to be added in the next 90 days before then to contribute. With the 40 man holding 48 players, you presumably only add him to the active roster for one of our ~4 righty bullpen spots that is currently Dominguez, Taylor, Hicks, and Trevor Richards. Our right-handed bullpen situation may not be great but he'd have to leapfrog a lot of players to get there in that very short period. Off 40 man guys Pallette and Iriarte. Then 60 day IL guys due back Berroa and Thorpe. Then actual 40 man guys Shane Smith, David Sandlin, Gonzalez, Tanner Mcdougal, Duncan Davitt, Tyler Davis, Johnathan Cannon. Sure youd maybe take him above some guys there but they too are going to be victims of a roster squeeze as it is. There's also a big crunch on the left side as well in the bullpen that limits the spots because Getz loves lefty releivers.
  14. GreenSox replied to BamaDoc's topic in FutureSox Board
I think the drafting/evaluation of amateur pitching has been less than exemplary overall. I also wonder if we just don't draft enough pitchers. The success rate is really low, so you need a lot more prospects.
  15. RBI's do mean something. You keep driving in runs and it makes everyone love you.
  16. In a similar vein, the Sox have 5 lefty relievers on the 26 man: Shweitzer, Eisert, Hudson, Newcomb, Murphy. I presume that that number will have to be winnowed down; and some can’t just be optioned back; and none are really bad enough to just DFA of the 40-man. (except maybe Eisert who has such little velocity), so dealing with this situation might create 40-man room.
  17. Meidroth, ANtonacci, Teel, Colson , Quero all did pretty good out of the gate. Shane Smith & Vasil too. Peters, Mune. Maybe you're thinking about the old Sox.
  18. Where would we be without Gonzalez? Vargas at 1b, CM at 3rd, Meidroth at SS and I guess Antonacci at 2b. Whoever in LF? No thank you. Thank goodness for the depth. And we may need it tomorrow. As it is, Gonzalez is a better defender at first than Mune. 1B/DH should be Gonzalez/Mune or vice-versa going forward. Gonzalez could spell some other IFs once a week too. It's Benintendi who is really the odd man out (but he's been doing well, so I have no impending desire to move him). Detmers has been one of those underachieving types, who's having a great year. Is it a one-off career year, or has he figured things out? I'd rather the sox go after Urena, but either one would cost something that would hurt. And really, the really don't need any hole-pluggers (such as an innings-eater starter) that can be had for a low-ceiling prospect. Overall, Sox have some depth. But I don't see an abundance (other than perhaps lefty middle relief) or anyone really blocked.
  19. Beni should be gone after this year so having him be able to slot in at DH or super sub for 4/5 games a week against Righties makes a ton of sense. Also there will bound to be injuries
