  3. But a lot of those early years as a reliever...so not the shoulder or elbow wear and tear of a typical frontline starter that age. That's a much bigger risk for a Sonny Gray at 37 imo.
  4. I have loved Bonemer since his very first at bat in Kanny. He has what the scout's call "a good face." Nothing seems to intimidate him, and while his swing is a tad unorthodox, he's so strong he makes it work. My record with guys I like is super mixed. I was an early guy on Baldwin, Antonacci, and Colson. But I also really thought Oscar Colas would be something. Ah, no. It will certainly be interesting to see how Bonemer turns out.

  7. I need to see Vargas do it again next year, he was practically worthless for 4 years and 300 games and then finally had a huge year. Doesn't mean it was lucky or that it can't be repeated, I just want to see it.
  8. Hell, look at what Vargas had to go through before he turned into anything. A lot of the board was completely done with him and now he’s the best player on a playoff team. I’m not saying Braden (or Colson for that matter), will have a similar experience, but we gotta relax on who’s a bust and who’s a future star.
  9. Caleb appears ready to make the jump hopefully next year. I'm excited to see what he becomes. It's definitely nice to have insurance for Colson - his second half OPS was just .557. I fear the league has figured out how to exploit him out of the zone. I don't think Braden was rushed at all. He didn't have a great postseason, but for a 23 year old coming up, he did absolutely fine in his 400ish plate appearances.
  10. If his comment was a joke David Samson certainly didn't think so when he talked about it and the Sox never denied the conversation.
  11. I think that's still Vargas, but Chase is pretty good at everything whereas Vargas is still a below average defender.
  12. If you look at swing length it definitely changed. 7.8 to 8.1. How much that affects K% i dont know, but it does make sense if velocity was an issue especially up in the upper third of the strike zone.
  13. I always picture that infield pop fly that hit him in the head, hopefully he wins it. I think he's arguably our best overall player.
  14. Excellent summary of the true nature of our current owner. Best post you’ve had on this site IMO.
  15. Ok, thought he was younger than that. 5 years is still possible, but definitely less confident.
  16. This to me seems like the best plan. I wish Taylor and/or Hagen could start, but the playoffs didn’t provide me with the confidence to think they can handle a starters workload.
  17. No. I am not trying to create unrealistic expectations for no good reasons when guys with high K rates very often have prolonged struggles at the major league level. It will happen. And then the usual suspects will start freaking out when it does. Rinse, repeat. I can't wait to see what you change your name to next.
  18. Chris Getz developed the system into back to back playoff appearances. What a failure. 2026 is just a continuation of that string of failure. LOL. Once Jerry Reinsdorf realized that the winning might start making him money, which he hates because he's so cheap, he had Getz promoted out of his role that was the true power center of the organization, so they started losing again. But then JR somehow thought that promoting Getz to GM would fulfil his goal of always finishing in 2nd place, so that he would leave billions on the table because he's so cheap, and Getz finished .... where? 2nd place!!! What a victory of failure!!!
  19. You can't wait for one of our top prospects to play poorly so that you can score internet points vs. a stranger that you've never met in person?
  20. He's 31. I think whoever gets King adds a 5th year.
  21. Which goes to my point that he isn't willing to spend to improve the team in cases where he could actually improve the team. The Sox are looking at about $40 million in dead payroll next year.
  22. Jerry isn’t most owners though. He doesn’t like paying players for not playing for his team.
  23. Yes, it would be nice to know that the Montgomery problems were explained by injury, but also that would be another year ruined by this injury which also doesn't bode well going forward for expectations for his future health.
  24. Skubal is not happening, but most older pitchers aren’t getting huge long term deals. To me, the biggest thing Jerry will say no to is the years. A three or four year deal at a high AAV is something I think Jerry would supports and that might be what King is looking at (more likely four years).
  25. I agree with this and never got around to responding to you asking what I would do with them and Noah. I think both those guys are in the pen and Hagen sees a Taylor type role he had earlier in the year when he opened/came in later for multiple innings. Schultz starts the year in Charlotte and is first man up when there is an injury (which could honestly be during Spring Training).
  26. Trust me, I realize EXACTLY how low our payroll was last year, only coming in ahead of Miami because we got an absolute late deal done after the Murakami market collapsed and Getz begging for the extra few dollars is the only reason we didn't come in last in payroll in all of MLB. The first part ignores that they took steps to minimize how much they took on at the deadline and going forward, and it wasn't even THAT much once they forced out a contract to balance out the deal. The second part again goes to the Sox being NOT willing to spend, and doesn't exactly help the case that they have a ton of money to spend. Most owners won't keep bad players on a roster, and are willing spend over a bad deal as a cost of doing business.
