Why would we want Torrens? Our problem is we have multiple catchers that our pitchers enjoy throwing to, that can’t hit. This is not upgrading that problem

he was the prominent Sale hater, but yeah many thought it stemmed from like the Sirotka trade or something but was always pretty dumb - but it does seem like it died when everyone was convinced he was highlighting Tatis to get back at the sox and then it turned out he was just a 20 year old mvp candidate or whatever.

I am still of the mind that with as bad as our catchers have been, I still think that they will regress to better performance (i.e. are not this bad), and we won't be in as bad of a spot no matter if we upgrade or not. edit: originally said pitchers, meant catchers.

Trade Haul Reflections by the Numbers
The problem is even if they don't pan out, they are still worth something - mainly the ability to have used in another trade. Hahn showed how tight the inventory was when he was already dipping into major league 'surplus' to balance the roster in '21 (lynn, kimbrel trades) and had nothing left that was plausibly valuable in 22 to get a difference maker. Shorter version - there is still in opportunity cost in that you can't trade them more than once, so you better be sure you target the right upgrades.

We are officially one week out from the trade deadline. The Sox themselves will be busy with seven straight games against the Yankees & Rays and that’s with no off days. Short of a massive blow-up this coming week, I think the motions are already in order for Getz to be an aggressive buyer. Two items of interest here. First, there is a roster move coming today and it will be Hays or Pereira replacing Junior Perez as RH hitting outfielder. Hays is on the 60 Day IL so if it’s him getting the call, then he’ll push our 40 man roster to the full amount. If it’s Pereira, we won’t run into that situation just yet. Either way, we can’t keep both of them and Grichuk, meaning one of them will be let go in some form over the next week. Second, the trade for Urquidy also had a roster implication. While I fully expect him to be just AAA depth as we shift McDougal & Hagen to relief roles to end the season, it does add to the roster crunch. Drew Thorpe is the one guy on the 60 Day IL who looks like they will need to come off before season end. It’s also possible that Hagen, Mason Adams, or even Pallette will need to get added. The real crunch will come this offseason, but I’d expect some fat to be trimmed at the deadline.

Yeah I saw he struggled a bit in the beginning due to trying to pitch with a blister.

That's what I am thinking, Hays can hit LH pitching.

I hope Mune doesn't fire his agent and then hire Boras.

I haven't done a deep dive but not sure why more people aren't in on Brady Singer. Since June 1, he's started 9 games, 52.1 innings, 17 earned runs (2.92), k/walk 52/16. Guy will cost very little and offers good upside imo. Could package him and Stephenson and probably not have to give up anyone in the top 10 (post-draft). Would still leave plenty for another pitcher or two.

I know the D'Backs are right in the WC Race, but curious if James McCann could probably be acquired at a pretty low cost. Spend real capital on pitching, but McCann wouldn't be a terrible rental.

I agree, he has had 17 starts at Indianapolis this year, low walk per 9, good whip, looks like he is 100% back from TJ, WS experience, bring him up.

Rodon signing was in there, too. Can't remember which was first. What are some of your early Boros/Sox interactions?

Venable, like other Managers, adheres pretty strictly to Righty/Lefty - Lefty/Righty splits in making a line-up, That's fine, but IMO, every decision in formulating a starting line-up should not always be grounded on split stats mainly because starting pitchers seldom last past 5 innings any more. Also some hitters , like Antonacci who has bad splits, just seems to get dialed in when the game is on the line. I would never pinch hit for Antonacci. Let him grind at the plate, maybe get a hit, a walk, or HBP.- White sox aquire Jose Urquidy from pirates
