  2. Here are the extra details on his contract… https://www.si.com/mlb/whitesox/onsi/news/white-sox-sign-closer-seranthony-dominguez So the deal is slightly backloaded. He gets $8 million this season — $7 million salary and a $1 million signing bonus. Obviously we don’t know how much the Sox plan on spending, but this would mean that around $11 million is left of the $20 million freed up from trading Robert for Acuna.

  4. Me and Eddy are fighting an uphill battle amidst an onslaught of disgusted fans and tend to enjoy watching the young guys develop and find peace with that side of baseball. I already know that makes me an outcast among the majority of fans who are unwilling to see progress unless its reflected in the W-L record. I've had mods delete my posts and tell me to piss off. I'll get suspended if I show too much of a backbone so I try not to get into lengthy debates. I'm more hit and run now .They prefer to make fun of the meek posters who dont fight back a lot and are polite thats why the more positive people here don't post more. They get ganged up on. Yet it's the majority playing the victim. The Sox made me this way. I have every right to be pissy about it. They want their cake and to eat too , rule the school and be victims at the same time and silence the ones who push back. It's like a civil rights issue majority vs minority and they say majority rules. Right now the board is dominated by angry fans but its not that way everywhere . I see a lot of good things and so do others . I just hate the High school atmosphere of making fun of people because they dont fight back because youre a jock and they are nerds for being nice. I rule the school crap because I post the most and my opinions are in the majority and just want the rest of you to stfu. I respect Lip and we can disagree on fundamental levels without bickering . Now Lip is in the majority of frustrated fans but there was a time when his politeness made him a target too.
  5. Baldwin needs to improve his righty swing dramatically if he wants to play full time. Also, he gets a little too swing happy with RISP and chases a lot of bad pitches. It’s worth it to give him this season. As I said earlier, it would be great if either him or Acuna can perform well this year.
  6. Combined they might be a pretty good OFer. As it is they have different strong points. Acuna is faster . Baldwin isnt slow. He's pretty fast too. Acuna is likely the better defensive OF. Looks like it was an easier transition to the OF moreso than Baldwin. But there's nothing preventing Baldwin from changing bad range into good range. He's fast and athletic enough to make decent strides out there. Baldwin has shown more MLB power but he got that power swing down. He ambushes pitches early in the count because pitcher's want to get ahead in the count. He also found his footing after a rough start offensively when he was sent down and torched Charlotte. His last 3 months were promising. He's been pretty good for a 12th round pick. Acuna has show flashes offensively but nothing sustained . They both have pretty fast bats Acuna is working on his fly ball swing. Baldwin has that part down. Projections favor Acuna by a little bit mainly because he racks up positive defensive WAR and Baldwin racked up negative defensive WAR. It seems easier to get an overall positive WAR based on defense overcoming offense than offense overcoming bad defense especially if your walk rate is low. That seems to carry a lot of weight with offensive sabremetrics since they think power might not be sustainable without maintaining good swing decisions. K rate is not necessarily a product of poor swing decisions since many many HR hitters can combine a high K rate with a high walk rate. Getz tends to stress certain things as a GM , LHH because its always a plus to have more strong side players, OBP which is a result of good swing decisions, enough power to result in more multi-run HR's for when you get the OBP. It all makes sense when you look at the history of the Sox being worst in MLB history when its comes to LHH. I forgot the tweet from a few years ago that showed that or what metric they used.
  7. If you view by fangraphs depth charts, the Sox have the lowest projected WAR of all 30 teams at each outfield position too. It's pretty crazy.
  8. Agreed. Crazy that he was the only player not ranked as a top 100 prospect to hit 20+ home runs at age 20 or younger.
  9. It is a little crazy I just looked at the Nats, Marlins, Twinkies, Pirates OF to see if any was worse projected and nope, our trio of .8 to 1 fWAR projected guys was easily the worst on paper. Minny without Buxton is similarly ugly, but they do have him if he can stay healthy.
  10. Ill put them at 65 wins, so feels like a toss up. Hoping you cash! I like/have Detroit and Milwaukee over 82.5 and I have Jesus Luzardo to win Cy Young at 50-1.
  11. So the Bears get screwed in all of this because the Falcons decided to create a position out of thin air less than a month ago and gave it to a guy with no front office experience. He's even said he won't be managing personnel. What's to stop the Bears from creating random positions above the general manager, promoting Poles to it, and then poaching some assistant GM from the Packers or Lions to be the new GM? It would technically be a promotion and we wouldn't be giving our rivals any picks. It's a terrible loop hole and a bad precedent to set. It totally goes against the spirit of the rule in the first place.
  12. They could just realize he stinks and listen to their base, but that may be giving the brass too much credit. I just hope they can admit they tried something, it didn't work, and just move on to someone else.
  13. Listen to him parrot every.single.positive.talking.point. That's why. The Sox want someone who is only going to say what he is paid to say. They don't want them thinking. They don't want them to be honest They just want the company line repeated ad nauseum.
  14. I was told by an individual actually connected to the Sox broadcasting operation that a number of more qualified individuals let the Sox know they'd be interested in the job and applied but for some reason Schriffen got the job. Why he did is a great question. It's clear the relationship between Benetti and the organization was fractured when Jason wanted to get a deal done before he talked to Fox and the Sox told him that wasn't necessary. That he should make a deal then come back to the Sox and they'd figure things out. So that's what he did. Then when he went back to the Sox, told them he'd need to miss 40 games because of commitments to Fox the Sox told him no and basically hung him out to dry. There was no going back after that. Maybe the Sox felt the deal with Fox wouldn't require him missing that number of games? No one really knows.
  15. I don’t even think he was referring to you. Your arguments always seem to center around the baseball side of things. I enjoy reading your disagreements with people because they are logical and level-headed, even if I don’t always agree with what you’re saying. Meanwhile, the disagreements between people like southsider, Eddy, and Cali are nauseating.
  16. Just absolutely fucking stupid. Great job NFL! I hope the Bears appeal this and win.
  17. How anyone would choose him over Benetti is beyond me
  18. My guess at the rest of the offseason list: Sign mid-rotation SP Add cheap veteran OF Trade Lee for whatever possible Trade Sosa if a return is there
  19. I accept your apology pal 😁
  20. They have the worst outfield on paper hands down. I just think that Baldwin showed enough last year to be given an everyday opportunity. Yes, the defense is a question mark, but that’s explainable and hopefully addressable. The bat was legit good after a tremendous run in AAA (go check his Statcast figures). I might feel a little different if were trying to win the World Series next year, but alas we aren’t and he’s the type of guy you try turning into a everyday regular in a rebuilding season.
  21. All he has to do is make it through next season without spilling any Campfire Milkshake on himself and I think he gets extended.
  22. Correct but he is held in high regard by Brooks (who hired him) and letting him go without an 'out' for the organization makes certain people look bad and that could be a factor. Unless he does something incredibly stupid on the air I don't see him going until Ishbia takes over or he decides to leave on his own.
  23. I think my entire point has evolved and been misrepresented. My point was the Sox having the OF situation they do excludes them from having a "great" offseason. That, and the SP situation id argue. They have arguably the worst OF and worst starting staff (on paper) entering the season. The roster situation itself is a failure. I never said Baldwin doesnt deserve a shot with the given roster. Im not sure where that got lost, but just clarifying.
