  2. I don't really want to trade for Deitmers or anybody of significance unless the trade is clearly an underpay from our perspective. The team is still growing and young. I don't have expectations of a World Series this year. The team got good by developing young players. The other item is having additional years of control, is nice. However, what are they going to be valued at given what next year could be, which is probably a shortened season? I would probably do Carlson and Quero for Deitmers as my high package. My thought process is we have a significant amount of middle infielders in Meridoth, Antonocci, Montgomery, Cholowosky, Thome, and Prosek. I would imagine two of that combination hold it down for the next 10-12 years. They could like Quero and feel like he is fixable. However, I would not trade any young pitching as this is something we are lacking.
  3. Just to clarify the writer has nothing to do with headlines, that's the editors and page paginators. And the point A to B to C is the play on JR's comments when he fired Larry Himes as G.M. in September 1990 for those that don't know. That was what he said to the media.
  4. I don't mind Detmers and I think there's definitely a lot of upside to him if he ever harnesses all of his stuff to be a more effective pitcher. But the proposed trades out there all rate him like he's an established near elite pitcher with 2.5 years of control left, which he is definitely not. Cease was a better pitcher with a better track record when the Sox traded him with 2 years of control left. And even he only got 1 top 100 prospect and a couple of guys near the bottom of the Padres' top 10 at the time.
  5. I'd trade hagen smith 3 times for detmers. Detmers for 2 1/2 years is way better than bullpen Hagen. Detmers today is like the 98 percentile outcome for Hagen. Lane Thomas is awful.
  6. I think it's a bad offer, but people here are really sleeping on detmers. He was rushed as a 21 year old to the league. Didn't get a chance to learn to pitch professionally. He threw 62 minor league innings. Has very fun stuff, and looks like he's found some pitchability over the last season (2nd half last year, 1st half this). My only concern with Detmers is it's a lot of fly balls. I'm definitely a fan though.
  7. Just saying, but last time the Sox traded a RHH outfielder (Derek Hill) because Everson Pereira was coming back, he picked up his 4th injury of the year days later... he has potential but I don't want Getz to make that same mistake again. You can't assume Hays will be worthless as Pereira is far from a lock to finish the season healthy

  9. Figured. They need arms as bad as the Sox.
  10. Red Sox now one game over .500 S.Gray Chapman off the market. That's something like 12 or 13 in a row
  11. Looks like he gets to play alongside your boy toy instead.
  12. One wonders how that sub-headline made it past an editor. That's too many points. What other points are there to reach? Point D? Point Z? Pointbreak? Point-and-shoot? Pointillism? I don't think the Sun Times employs editors anymore though.
  13. Soxtalk hates bunting, remember.
  14. There’s nothing wrong with the content itself - just seemed like it was written by a kid in middle school. Abruptly ended with just a single sentence. Seemed like it could have been developed more. Also, I’m just in a pitiful mood as of late and am hyper critical of just about everything right now. So don’t mind me. 😆

Second mound visit. 20 pitches. 5 strikes.

At least Smith still has his no-hitter going.
  17. For those of us who are hoping that Shane Smith can boost our rotation… his control is awful today so far. In his first 11 pitches he has a HBP, a walk, and three wild pitches.
  18. DirtySox replied to BamaDoc's topic in FutureSox Board
Shane Smith has thrown three wild pitches and walked two. He is all out of sorts in the 1st.

Smith’s control to start the game today looks awful.
  20. Offense this month seems to be running hot and cold. Today was the sixth time they've scored one run or nothing in a game in July.
  21. What exactly is wrong with it? It perfectly outlines the situation the Sox are in, do they go for it given the upcoming labor impasse and the cost of some of their better young players in the minors or do they stay the course? Hell that's being debated here in a lot of the themes. I'll be curious to see what they do and remember JR still runs the show and has the last word on everything.
  22. Seriously how many times does a team score a ton of runs and only to score a very low amount the next game
  23. A big old flusheroo. Back at 'em tomorrow!
  24. I’m pretty sure it happened today two or three times and it’s been a theme with this team. I’ve been chalking it up to a young group that is inexperienced… But the time to see growth in this area is here. If they are going to win the division - THEY MUST improve in this way.
