I disagree. I don't recall a lot of folks upset over trading Gonzo, other than he was a great kid, etc. Gonzo, in the best part of his minor league career, never approached Boston Smith's offensive numbers. Plus, Sox got a pretty good prospect in Thome.

My concern is that you recently got rid of Jacob Gonzalez and Boston Smith which were 2 LHH power bats when Benintendi and perhaps Murakami may not be a part of this team after next year. I suppose Teel can replace the Benintendi power if he stays healthy. With Bonemer and Cholowsky both RH the Sox are fast becoming a RH power team . It may not matter if both become very good however I like Getz's original instincts that LH power is crucial to your lineup. Mune is very crucial to the White Sox continuing to give the majority of Starting pitchers fits with his power and OBP.

He appears to be in great shape…I’d bring him back on a one year deal. Even if we move away from a platoon DH situation at some point next year because of Bonemer’s arrival, he can still be an extremely valuable role player who can give one of your corner OF’s a rest against LHP.

Sox will be able to add one pitcher on Sep 1st. At this point, you got to think it will be someone who can provide some bulk innings. Thorpe & Sandlin remain the two most obvious candidates to me. Assuming Martin comes back at some point as well, that would theoretically eat up that spot too unless you decide to send Schweitzer back down. We also have to see if Urquidy can sustain even a fraction of what he showed against the Cubs. Personally, I’d like to see Thorpe get a chance in our rotation and bump one of Urquidy or Fedde back to the bullpen. Interesting that tonight’s starter is listed as a TBD given Thorpe should be ready to go if called upon tonight. Probably just the Sox debating whether to use an opener for Urquidy or not.

Does Getz bring Grich back next season? He is 35 yrs old but Venable loves having him on the bench and the team loves this guy .
